Kenya Power’s bid to charge consumers higher tariffs flops

Looks like that cashflow will keep depleting as they replace their really really faulty old grid and pay for new power. No dividend increase anytime soon

hahaaa gava doesn't care about improving the bottom line you can imagine the kind of investor you are partnering with.

This just underlines why I don't invest in GoK controlled/influenced firms. [I have made an exception for KenRe but I watch it closely and will not hesitate to sell out if I feel uncomfortable].

Efficiency is the only way out for kenya power.
Electricity consumption is growing at a very slow rate.Road shows and marketing needs to be done to increase the per capita consumption.

This is the problem of central planning, some bureaucrat sits in the office and decides 5000MW of power by 2017 while the market only needs 2500MW. The bureaucrat then tell kenya power you can't raise tariffs. Pity those who gave capital at 19/- during rights issue. Real value trap

Wanna invest in a GoK controlled firm when GoK officials appointed by politicians call the shots?

what else do you expect, market responding to dramatic increased risk in this firms business model. ipps(idependent power producers) are the next black hole in kplc's financial owes. they are more likely to meter hot air power and and only for kplc to blame lost sales on illegal connections. how do u account for the huge increase in power losses between units sold to kplc and those sold to consumers. kplc simply is open to metering and paying for hot air kilowatts(killer bills). transformers azileti pesa because they are on top of high voltage power lines, so the thieves have learnt how to make more and easy money, just get hooked to the victims aorta for a taste of the bloody life.
single digit it is.
only ipps will be making money from kplc, and supplier's. horribly shareholder anajipanga.

At this level KP is testing multi year support zone clustered from 1996, 1999, 2004, 2005 and 2009 (GFC low). Next critical support level is 8.00 handle if this support level fails. Break below that critical support level opens up a nasty air-pocket to crazy lows last seen between 2000 - 2002 period.
