I read in today's papers that the 2 slumlords are to be charged with manslaughter. A fair decision as they are directly responsible for the construction.

I would also like to see a specific county employee, NEMA employee, the contractor and Architect (I am sure the last 2 do not exist) responsible for approving this building face similar charges. Let this employees implicate their bosses if they can demonstrate that negligence was delegated.

If responsibility needs to be scaled up, then why stop it at the Governor, how about take it all the way to the president, at the end of the day, he is the president of all of Kenya.

I am in agreement! there is also a level of personal responsibility that we as citizens should also take. People are careless with their lives and the lives of their families. How do you live in such a house and pay rent? really? then one hears fatalistic statements like "Oh.... Mungu ndio anatuchunga"... "Oh.... Mimi ni masikini".... Listen... hata kama wewe ni masikini level gani - you should know your life is not as cheep as you think. I am sure Lucy Kibaki would have paid millions to get that "life" you have. Why would you then just live it like it doesn't matter? why relegate yourself and your family's lives to statistics to be used during campaigns??? I know there are others in the blame chain but the 1st person who should be blamed is YOU! not all "poor" people live in dangling houses... tuwache ushenzi at a personal level... seriously! we cannot continue losing lives to stupid decisions and then make these lives political fodder. Oh... Kidero.... Oh Planner... hii ni 3rd world... take care of your life and that of your loved ones.

@Masukuma, these sentiments are not realistic. You are a 'mwenye shibe asiemjua mwenye njaa' trying to project bourgeois attitude to peasants and flogging them for not keeping up.

haya basi... nyinyi mpige kelele mgoje institutional changes until then wacheni maskini waishi pale wanataka. ni sawa! umeona kidero ikiangukiwa na nyumba? I have heard someone use the analogy of a bus. If you boarded a bus that was really smoky and had rusty exteriors and what looked like uneven tires because it was a cheaper option - just know that you are putting your life on the line. The speeding bus story is different but not so much - we need Kenyans to get to a point where they speak hata kama ako peke yake na sio kwa twitter! Ukiona dere anapeleka gari mbaya sema! boss.... hiyo maisha yako sio MAISHA YENU! ni yako! watoto wako wataachwa yatima. It will be no comfort to them if "many ophans were left behind" coz you decided not to speak because all others were silent. If someone survives they will not take care of your children because "mulikuwa wengi". I am urging people to take personal responisbility and exercise judgement not defer it to authorities or democracy ("si tuko wengi? Kwani hao wanaishi kwa hiyo nyumba sio watu?") maisha yako ni yako... sio yenu! hiyo maisha yako sio ya kuchezewa hivyo hivyo! put it on the line and become a statistic! a campaign statistic! ipatie watu wengine kazi!

Indeed! This is rich! An unapologetic capitalist urging socialism, cajoling the people to fight for their rights. Of course you will not see any discrepancy!

I think I get it now. With or without rights you should pursue your interests. It doesn't matter if it's a bandit economy or a democratic utopia, you should pursue your interests.Maisha ni yako.

The length of a bed is 2m. Does this mean a bed can't fit into those rooms? I think the minimum habitable room size by law is 2.4x2.4m. And 2.4m height.

Githundi you are absolutely right. The Kenyan media is just shameful to say the truth. And they know it.

it's easy to say it was a bedsitter. Do you honestly think anyone wants to live in such conditions?

How can someone build a house on a property that is public land. Then builds a house that is more than 4 storeys without a lift. Then builds a house that is a danger to living beings. Then collects rent. Then illegally shuts of electricity and does not provide water as is enshrined in the consititution.

No let's blame the victim.

Masukuma please tell me where someone who's paid 10k per month is supposed to live. After all its he's responsibility.

We have indians setting up factories that earn billions of shillings but these fellows pay their "employees" 300 per day. Where is this labor supposed to live?

Nation newspapers even rewards these slave dealers with top 100 by 100 or something awards.

Then we have a labor movement who's leader is only interested in the latest gold chain.

Then the "entreprenuer" who bribes city and government officials to build death traps. The motto is "if you build shit, the assholes shall come".

We even have a thread on wazua on how you can build shit and charge the slaves all their wages....It's called property investments forum.

This Huruma thing is just what Kenya is. Ohh people died. Let's jail a few fellows for 2 weeks. Ohh lets bring down 5 houses and use selfies in Huruma.

Nope that's not the problem. The problem is that public land has been grabbed. Private developers are building on road reserves and waterways and bribing government officials to do so.

Why isn't Kidero today at Nakumatt with a bulldozer. I remember they beat the hell out of Wangari Maathai when she complained. The same cop who beat her up, probably has a relative who died in Huruma.

I think God has had enough of Kenyans. There shall be more to come.
Thieves are not good people. Tumeelewana?
