the deal wrote:@ mukiha what of liberty life south africa(also owned by standard bank sa) taking a controlling and strategic stake in the insurance business and then the listing of it as a separate entity on the nse...how far have they gone with that? As indicated before; my bet is on that de-merger. I expect it to increase shareholder value. However, there is still the little matter of a South African company running the show in a Kenyan company. Their record has been quite unimpressive! Nothing is real unless it can be named; nothing has value unless it can be sold; money is worthless unless you spend it.

Mukiha, talk of convolution spot on! The initial strategy of the entity as all-in-one shop seems to have flopped ama was this a CFC idea? Did Stanbic buy the strategy too? Could be na sasa its repercussions. It must deconvolute I agree. This way the financial services will not burden the otherwise "marginally performing" bank. Du Toit should also be shown the door, this market si kama SA, to cope with the competition, as illustrated NIC,DTB,CBA out performed CFC Stanbic by far.

ProverB ...basing your investment decisions on past performance only ....is like driving with your eyes firmly fixed on the side mirror... The fall in eps was as a result of Ksh699million impairment of stocks ....This does not involve outcashflow and with the upbeat NSE this can be reversed.... http://www.businessweek....mpairment-update1-.html

Fundaah..i'm no genius...but i do understand that. it is wise to consider basis of were u "stand" before u step into the "future".... past performance reflects on management strategy..the same management you are entrusting the future with... if merger is f******D up the past will reveal.. compare managements excuse now to the optimism they had at end of 08!!!..slow down begun in 08..surely..any competent idiot would have mitigated the losses....if their misfortunes stem from stocks..imagine centum's results. On that note... i'm glad i stayed out. apart from Mukiha's approach..only hopes seem to justify buying..unfortunately that cannot be quantified into real cash. ..Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven...Matt5:16 - 1769 Oxford King James Bible 'Authorized Version

Those assets can be put to some good use. Thats my reason period. May be the most undervalued of the medium banks based on the net assets. You are free to disagree. Life is short. Live passionately.

@sparkly... Good Asset base vs Non performing management.... i think management has bigger weight on influencing share holder value. thus my anti cfc stand... except maybe for speculative reasons.. "the bigger fool theory"..where you can always sell at higher price to a less informed buyer. ..Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven...Matt5:16 - 1769 Oxford King James Bible 'Authorized Version

CFC might as well be put in the same bracket as investment banks when it comes to turn over and perfomance of the NSE.. almost all investment banks posted losses.. another thing is that they made it very clear that they had many once off costs that arose from expansion and improvement of banking facilities... all these are not going to appear anywhere in this years results... couple this with improved economy and NSE... the rest will play itself out Mark 12:29 Deuteronomy 4:16
