Fleckvieh EA ltd will be showcasing two of their pedigree cows in a bid to introduce them to Kenya.One will be a pure Fleckvieh while the other will be a crossbreed with a Holstein.A pure Fleckvieh can produce as much as 10,000 litres of milk per lactation besides being also very good meat cows.

'10,000 litres of milk per lactation' - Njunge can you expound and elucidate? is this per cycle from the birth of each calf? Like 250-260 days? I know the really good local grade cows can do abt 38-40 litres per day. BTW is the ASK show on already? I thought its usually around October-ish

As said............ and Kenya will be the third country in Africa where this super cow is being introduced besides SA and Namibia.I understand this pedigree cow will be showcased at the Brookside/Livestock breeders show in Nrb starting 11th this month.Maybe if you are near town you can attend,hear and see for yourself and pass on the information here for those who will not be able to attend.Entrance fee is 200 bob per skull.......

i see a surge in cattle rustling in areas where this cow will be introduced...

would be interested in knowing how much in premiums i will need to pay to insure this super-ngombe...

The insurance premium is based on the value of the cow. Blue shield insurance is good,i cannot complain

From the images,this breed is monstrous akin to questions I may pose what is the consumption yield of a Fleckvieh breed in comparison to its milk yield and other breeds,and how resistant is it to diseases within the the tropics in comparison to other tropicalized and seasoned breeds

Visited the show n saw it .the cow is quite huge and produces just likd a pedigree holstein.adv is as they say in the food.quite adaptable to all climate(the cros breed) and can calf 14 times.once done wit milk production,it can be fattened for beef-over 400kg live weight.problem is late maturity.ai ranges from 4k -1600

Got to chat with the South African farmer for about an hour. Its a good breed. I seriously worry about insuring it however. I don't know of any neighbour of mine who would not try and take it for a tour of his home. lol

I loved the goats more and the Jerseys. Learned a lot from those farmers and ordered a few goats and doppers.

For those who haven't gone there and were talking about going into farming,what are you waiting for? You will get better advice from the farmer than at sk.
By the way,10k litres is in optimal conditions and depends on the sire and the purpose of your farming.

@ njunge. jamhuri park yesterday.i took even a video and a few photos.its just a wonder animal for kenya.but when the cow is on heat its so violent u ve to fix it immediately or else it will hurt itself.but the rest very nice its a beauty.
