I know we all doubt opinion polls (unless they are in a politician's favour of course), but hopefully we have more faith in information emanating from Wazua...
Having posted a question in Wazua one lazy afternoon, I noticed that despite the thread being viewed over 50 times in an hour or so, there was no single reply. I got curious of the reply rate to topics in Wazua (and probably other similar online platforms), moreso taking into account the theme of the topic under discussion. Cognisant of the fact that there are popular/veteran Wazua commenters, who give feedback in diverse thread topics, it was also of interest to see if there was such a trend with topic starters. With a bit of webscraping and data analysis in R statistical software ("rvest" package), I was able to gather some "interesting" initial results. Realtime analytics being the new fad in the statistical world, I decided to run an "R Shiny" application.
Initial results show that although the viewing rate of threads/topics is high, rarely do Wazuans reply to topics under discussion!
On average, for every 1000 views, a topic elicits 2 replies. The 'best performing' thread topics achieve between 6 and 15 replies per 1000 views. The app is still under development and hosted on a free (limited features
Shiny apps account) so expect some downtime.
Feedback/criticism is welcome
