@all
normally i would never look at this counter due to the nature of its business and illiquidity but given the massive rally in other stocks that i also never look at for the same reasons eg(eagaads, kapchorua etc) i cant help but wonder whats in store for this counter...

its price has been relatively stagnant all through the NSE boom and bust for about five years but meanwhile its financials look sound to me... its price/book is 0.3 with a P/E of around 4.7

i wouldnt want to get caught with my pants down again.. does anyone out there know anything about this counter that can stop one from getting into it???

@ guru - haven't been in Kenya for some years, but when i was, I thought Unga products dominated the supermarkets.
My Q is what do you mean by 'due to the nature of its business'

I am slowly getting into Unga.

@richvee its a company that deals in processing maize and so on and when i'm playing this stock market game one of my rules is to not play with agricultural exposed stocks due to price-supply volatility which greatly affects the companys revenue..

but now i'm being forced to change those rules and look twice due to the current bull run in tea and coffee stocks...

the joy with this counter is that since it is a processing firm and not a producing one it will benefit tremendously from increasing supply and falling prices of maize due to rain IMHO...

i just want to make sure i'm not missing anything..

@guru - Very volatile earnings... Unga is not as politically savvy (read: does not bribe) as others like kibor.

kibor was ruto's buddy who bought maize on PAPER from NCPB. Then he sold (without even going to NCPB) to Mombasa Millers who sent their lorries to pick the maize up!

Of course, you & I could not get this maize but kibor could! Even Unga & Mombasa Millers could not access all the maize they wanted. Why? Coz ruto favored his friends...

@VVS i agree this company cant compete with the politics of the grain industry so they lose out big...

i would never buy this stock to hold... but politics aside and from a speculative point of view if maize prices fall this year due to the imminent rainfall that will drastically increase supply of the crop wont they benefit greatly since they buy it cheaper and there is high supply...

have you taken a look at their half year results?? and they say this will be sustainable into 2011...

As wazuarians say... watch this space!!
