If it drops to below 10 will you really buy? There were people saying ill buy at 14, 13, 12. They have all kept quiet. If your buying buy. The valaution looks "low". Why dues the market hammer this stock so much. PE is tending to 3. Maybe they know something we don't

As always- @pesanane comes through! results fresh from KPLC's oven.

d'oh! I guess this company has been anointed the laggard for my portfolio this year

The costs tell a story- around 25% rise in transport and distribution costs as well as non-fuel power purchase costs. Would be interested in the complete results (or commentary if any) to try and understand whether this is just a consequence of their expansion and upgrading policy or inefficiency. Or both.

And with elections arriving next year 'yule jamaa wa kutenga' will definitely do his routine of reading KPLC the riot act to bring down the price of electricity. So it might be a slow 2-3 years for this company.

Definitely cooling my buying on this one (with excellent timing, I bought some at 11.50/- yesterday). Onwards to KK and DTK results- may they wash away the taste of KPLC's disappointing half-year.

Power Purchases

Non-fuel costs
The power purchase cost (excluding fuel cost and foreign exchange) increased by Shs. 4,906 million from Shs. 20,045 million incurred in the previous year to Shs. 24,951 million. The rise is attributable to additional capacity charges by KenGen, Gulf Power and Triumph Power Company for new power plants and the increase in energy charges as a result of the rise in unit purchases from 4,320 GWh the previous year to 4,532 GWh, an increase of 212 GWh or 4.9% as shown:

Last year bought 18000 shares at 13 sold at 18, so its just speculation that it will hit 15 one day then i sell sell sell. If it doesnt still good to keep, we only doing 2000MW and SA doing 44,000MW, from MindSpeak interview with Kengen cost of power will come down while in SA and Egypt its going up. Manufactures that consume sooo much power will eventually come through more sales for Kenya power....short term though not good for this company

That FX pass through is glaring! Pushed up by Green energy. Interesting. Great progression from the elec. + fuel charge nonetheless.

Until manufacturing picks up, KPLC may end up paying for more than it can sell. The usage by rural households, which represent the majority of the new connections, is insignificant compared to a Steel Mill, large Textile Mill or Cement Factory.

Perhaps the intra-city rail will be powered by electricity. A Wazuan said the SGR trains will use diesel locomotives. What a pity for KPLC.

Corruption. I have heard horror stories.

Bottomline: Let me stick to my lane. Private firms (with closely watched KenRe as the exception for now).

Should KPLC not request (demand!) the Kshs.500m seized from Gichuru's account in Jersey - after all the funds originated from KPLC? Likewise to get Asset Recovery Authority to obtain directly from Gichuru/Okemo the balance of the funds that went into and was withdrawn from that offshore account and forward to KPLC, while hopefully on the basis of the Jersey judgement EACC get off their butts and immediately arrest and place in remand the two 'to assist in investigations' whilst awaiting 'documents' from Jersey's AG ...or am I expecting too much...

Yes. Applause Applause Applause but as you said you are expecting too much! And KPLC should join the lawsuits against Gichuru BUT of course money has been poured [TNA, URP, MPs, Senators, Judges] to prevent that in Kenya!
