Most cab guys in the world are a bunch of extortionists. They over charge even for very small distances.Amongst all Kenya towns, Eldoret cabs have the fairest pricing model. They charge 300/= for distances within the town vicinity. I once rode on a distance equivalent to going from the CBD to JKIA n still paid 300/=.If it was in Nairobi that fare has an extra zero.

Which Eldoret i paid 1200 for a transfer from town to airport i checked with 3 guys and all quoted the same. Kiboko cha uber kiko jikoni and it will come from Uber partners apparently uber despite charging so low has increased its commision from 15% to 25% ie a ride from town to yaya costion 300bob uber takes 75bob now taxes 16% vat what is 200 for such a distance yet they want newer cars 2009 onwards. Investors have to pay hefty inspection fees insurance and cost of financing cars. The only reason most are still in it is the promise of regular clients most whom they convert into their regulars ie cleints calls a particular guy he likes and then when taxi arrives at gate they ask you to press request taxi which allocates client the guy nearest to client.

How do you pay for Uber service? Asking for a friend.

The question is, can we disrupt matatus in the same manner? I think an African solution would be needed for that one. Carpooling apps have so far only worked on a very local level. Opportunity here...

Doing this as a reaction and not proactive will not take these guys anywhere. Idea is dead on conception!!!
