Huge volumes at the last auction. The rains have boosted tea production but prices are falling. Overall, I expect another bumper year for Williamson.

No (significant) debt.
Tea, tea, tea everywhere as the rains have been good.
Decent [not high but not low] prices.
KES stable at 102-ish.
High interest rates on the cash/deposits.

Let the good times roll!

How many Williamson shares did you load when it bottomed out last month ex bonus?
Someone beat me to it at 164. Very disappointed.
The last auction had over 12mn kgs of tea offered for sale.

With so many profit warnings and record losses(KQ) flying around, the relatively favourable environment in which Williamson is operating is best enjoyed with a cup of tea.

Quick questions: assuming that Kenya and Iran could normalise relations swiftly and Iran has immediate access to its frozen dollars, how soon could tea sales and exports to that country start? Is it a 3 month, 6 month, or 12 month wait (or longer)?

Iran market would be a good cushion for tea prices with the rising volumes you mentioned.

Iran imported tea despite the sanctions but did it via Afghanistan, Dubai and Pakistan. What the lifting of sanctions will do is reduce prices for Iranians and cut down on middle-men for Kenyan exporters. Win-Win. Think 12 months.

@Arconnrk -

http://articles.economic...ssociation-vijay-sethia [Iran bought tea from India which also imports from Kenya. Now Kenya can export directly to Iran]

Iran (via Pakistan) has been buying Kenyan tea http://articles.economic...-indian-tea-association I hope
Iran buys more Kenyan tea after the trade relations are normalized.

Loving it ;-)

“Williamson tea is expected to make a profit of about Sh800 million this year given the stable tea prices at the start of the year with the gains against the dollar made by the local currency,” he says.

"In November last year, Williamson Tea reported a 126.2 per cent increase in earnings in its half year ended September 2015 to Sh380.7 million.

Interestingly, the gain in value of tea plantations of Williamson Tea’s climbed by 127 per cent to Sh159.2 million. This profit gain was in sharp contrast to the full year net loss of Sh227.6 million recorded by the company the previous full year. Interestingly, according to Mr Ochieng’, Williamson Tea has proven to be among the rich stocks at the NSE"

Let the good times role indeed! Even if one takes out the biological gains item that's a sweet cup of tea. May the profits (and generous dividend) continue. Applause

If they were to declare a 40 Bob dividend again then this share is grossly undervalued....read in the BD that tea prices have been low this half of the year...
