Rent-seeking doctors are pocketing up to Sh100,000 for every patient they refer abroad for specialised treatment, a cancer specialists lobby group has said as the stash of hard currency spent on medical tourism hits new highs. http://nairobinews.natio...ancer-patients-to-india/possunt quia posse videntur

I think each Kenyan needs to have a gun to protect ourselves from Judges, Docs etc. They are all thieves and for the case of Docs they can even kill you by prescribing the wrong treatment to make money, What is this ?.

How benevolent of Dr. David Makumi; (still struggling to find him on the online doctors' retention register of http://medicalboard.co.k...ine-services/retention/ ) In his activism, does he have a bias? Is it to his medical colleagues, hospitals, or to the patient? Because I can guarantee, more doctors in Kenya would understand if you died at the hand of their local colleague or hospital, than lived in India. People travel to India because of better outcomes - period. Medical Uber.

He hates the fact that someone else if offering cheaper treatment - he and his colleagues would rather fleece the sick to death... I love the Indian model of healthcare. Even some pretty complicated stuff can be performed at very reasonable cost, and this Doctor wishes that Kenyan patients did not have that option. Great men are not always wise, neither do the aged understand judgement...

This wild accusation confirms the old adage that a lie will travel halfway across the world before truth comes out. I have a close friend who is a cancer survivor and this is what he advises anyone who is willing to listen. The moment you have a cancer diagnosis, your family should hold an urgent meeting with only one agenda. How to transfer the patient to India. I cant remember most of the costs but consultation fee is equivalent to Kes.1,500 in India compared to 10K here. He was telling me he was booked in a private ward for a cost of Kes.5,000 per day. This Dr. makumi fellow could be a gun for hire by the local cartels in the medical sector.

The local cartels want to fleece Kenyans to death. He's talking of hospitals being upto 40% idle? At what cost? A friend's mum has been fighting cancer for 4 years, radiation only once at Moi Referral, all the other time? Overbooked! The next available slot for radiotherapy was said to be in September 2016, that was mid last year. Been on chemo several times but no results. Went to India a month ago, the recovery has been wonderful @ very affordable rates. This Mukami is a hired gun. Him and his gang want Kenyans to die on their soil soiling themselves.

We fail to realise that this Makumi fellow is a nurse, not a doctor and runs some NGO. Of course there may be issues of Kenyan doctors taking commissions for referrals. Health care in Kenya is extremely expensive and doctors/hospitals fleece patients. Do you know that it is cheaper to have a Caesarean section or angiogram privately in London than in Nairobi hospital or Karen Hospital. The doctors fees for hip or knee replacement is three times in Kenya compared to UK. A bigger concern is the doctors lack the skills as they do not do enough cases, have little respect for patient safety or care.
All said and done, healthcare in India is cheaper, better quality and reliable compared to our hospitals. The doctors have the right attitudes
