That idiot of a President is inviting trouble for his poor country. What if the other EA countries kick Tanzanians out of their countries and even close borders?
Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm.

The other countries should also reiterate.

On this one I think I support Maghufuli. The order is for deportation of ILLEGAL immigrants without WORK permits. If a country has established laws about who is allowed to come into the country then it is only proper that those laws are enforced. I am glad that this is a government led directive as opposed to mob justice like in the case of South Africa. I have watched a youtube video where Daresaalam streets are full of Chinese owners of mitumba stalls. I am sure they see themselves as foreign investors but if the Tanzanian laws do not allow these kind of foreign investments then they have to go. Most countries have a minimum amount that one is required to bring in as a foreign investor and I am certain capital to set up a mtumba stall does not meet that threshhold. If it did Tanzania or any other African country would be overran by millions of Chinese.

first of all, @kaka2za, you have chosen to quote a website which we long ago decide not to quote,

about TZ, this is one over-sensationalized topic by the media in Tz, and subsequent reaction by social media in Kenya,

TZ government has not chased anyone(at least not yet), they have doing better implmentation of rules around immigration,
anyone, kenyan or not, with their papers in order continues with their life as normal.

key changes:

*temporary work visa used to be given at the airport for 200usd, now they'll be applied before landing for 500usd, many other countries have the same rule

*people used to 'work' by renewing those temporary permits over and over again. this is now considered illegal instead full work permit is required.

*Seperate work permit and residency permit will be required

*work permits now have a 5 year total maximum renewable period

That's the official position but am sure you know what 'uswahili' means.
I know a few Kenyans who have worked in Dar for 2-3 years and their applications have been put on the ice.
Wait until till you encounter idara ya uhamiaji na usalama wa taifa. Please avoid Masaki area hata kama una hati zote.

@kaka2za, so that's why you've posted rumours and undertones and traded that as an 'official position' and you know that it's not.

Fact is, what many people have been made to believe as a result of these media is not correct. Anyone who has their papers right does not have anything to worry about, Tz Govt has not and is not likely to do something as stupid as harassing anyone simply because they are a foreigner.
@UpcomingPaperChaser, if you have your papers, relax. Even you as a kenyan tourist can visit that masaki.

Quote:
Tanzania has slapped stringent restrictions on all diplomatic, consular missions and international organisations meetings with its officials as well as political leaders in the country, it has emerged.

The government says it will now clear all the planned activities of the foreign missions and international organisations, including who and when they meet leaders of the various political parties.

Also affected include appointments seeking audiences with the political leaders and members of Parliament during the ongoing Bunge sessions in Dodoma, says an official circular issued last week and seen by The Citizen.

The ministry of foreign affairs will be responsible for enforcing the rules that are spelt out in the notice issued to the institutions on January 28.

The move by the same ministry has apparently raffled members of the diplomatic corps, who were reportedly still not sure how to respond.

The circular further directed all members of the diplomatic corps to seek permission from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, East Africa, Regional and International Co-operation, before traveling upcountry and meeting any local government authorities or grassroot organisations.

From now henceforth, the government will not accept or process matters forwarded or copied to its from the embassies or organisations. The ministry will only accept and process original applications that should not also be copied beforehand to any entities.

“The Ministry is charged with forwarding the same to the relevant authorities and providing feedback. All communication that shall arrive at the Ministry bearing copied notification or that shall be submitted to the Ministry with notification of third party, not channelled through the Ministry as per procedure, shall not be accorded due diligence.’’
