There is one and only definition of middle class in kenya.

According to the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS), Kenya’s middle class includes anybody spending between Sh23,670 and Sh199,999 monthly. The upper class are those who spend above Sh200,000 a month while the lower class are those who spend less than Sh23,670 per month)

Therefore if, say, you live in Kayole, and each month you spend 8,000 on rent, transport 4000, food 5000, phombe 3000, phone 1000, school fees 3000, to give a total expenditure of 24k, then you are middle class.

I assume the neighborhood kindergarten would charge 10k per term. That's about 3k per month. Or if the kid is in a public primary school, the cost would be much much less than phombe coz of the free primary education.
