Kenya's Jubilee Holdings posted a 24 percent increase in full-year pre-tax profits and said it will issue shareholders with bonus shares after a strong rise in the number of people taking out insurance.
The insurance company recorded gross profits of 1.12 billion Kenya shillings ($14.53 million) for the period to end Dec. 31.
It said earnings per share rose to 18.33 shillings from 14.14 shillings. It recommended a total dividend 4.50 shillings per share and declared a bonus share issue in the ratio of 1:10.
"Jubilee Kenya recorded an impressive 26 percent growth in general business, a 24 percent in life business, and consolidated its market leadership in medical business with an increase of 11 percent," it said in a statement.
The company which also operates in Tanzania and Uganda said underwriting profits increased by to 359 million shillings last year from 265 million shillings the previous year.
