Ushago as we know today will disappear and instead the villages will be more like leafy suburbs as population grows and as more and more richer of the population gets richer and build the kind of houses you see in the villages today.

All the same life there will be cheaper than in the cities for various reason including having a bigger shamba you can plant you most of your food , keep a cow for milk , sell some of the harvest , cheaper labour etc.

This blogger might not agree with your sentiments.

Quote:
If a city had no limits to its growth, countries that have had civilizations for the past three to five centuries will be having buildings dotting every available piece of land. They do not. This myth implies that one day, houses and buildings will dot the landscape all the way from Bomas to Magadi town, Komarocks to Kangundo town and even Kitengela to Kajiado. This is wishful thinking. It will never happen.

Can't agree less.A couple of weeks back, i was driving along the Isiolo-Marsabit road. Either side of the road, there are expansive chunks of beautiful land that go beyond the horizon. Totally unoccupied. I found myself think, now, even if you came along with material and started erecting a house somewhere here, there might not be anybody to ask you....and so it's possible in the same country where you are scammed for an 1/8th acre, there are free acres of land out there. The problem is,all of us want to fit in Nairobi!! Let's pay then.
Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm.

I love the city life.. More money in circulation. However, I already own two acres in the rural area which indeed has developed a great deal. Was eating nyama jana with a friend who inherited 900 acres from the old man, but he has been unable to know what to do with it 8-4-4=0

I feel that over time, with the emergence of counties coupled with their exponential economic growth, proliferation of institutions of higher learning (most counties have a growing number of universities) and the uptake of technology, the Ushago as we know it will soon change....

I'm currently struggling to get cheap labor to till land and also stay at the house in shagz. Most young men/women around the village have been empowered by the things I've mentioned above and are doing "higher level" jobs other than tilling. The ones available are asking for a very high salary... Guys even have better smart phones than some of us from the "city"

How should we anticipate and react to this change?

Big parcels of land going forward will also be in huge demand as they will be scarce(with all the subdivision going on)
Africa belongs to Africans.
