latest, is that there is no ranking of schools or candidates, so no celebrations or fanfare, just parents going to collect their kids results and making arrangements for the same to join high school.

doing away with ranking was the best thing ever to have happened so far in our education sector.
Next should be doing away with national schools, just have secondary schools where placement is done randomly, and focus on having all class 8 kids transiting into secondary school.

What will you say next? Do away with job interviews, just do the jobs placements randomly and focus on all graduates transiting into the world of work.

Matiang'i is really not feeling this "ritual". The next time he might just announce the results from his office. Am liking his direction.

where did I mention jobs, I thought we are talking about tax payer funded schools or are we talking about jobs ?

I don't think its fair putting more resources into the education of some kids at the expense of other, especially at 13 years of age, at that stage in life we should be looking at making high school education much more uniform and universal, not a determinant of a 13 year old's future.

Was shocked this holiday to meet a class 7 kid. Who cant read a preschool basic English sound book. In our time we would be talking of a murder case, murderer being the English teacher.

you should not be shocked, the emphasis has shifted since then, now the kids are more geared towards passing the exam, the stakes are high.

So the kid is just taught what is most likely to appear in the kcpe paper, you can also tell by the kids being interviewed after scoring high marks the script is the same, its like the kids have been taught what to say to the media.

I liked ole kiyapi take on the education sector on ntv yesterday, he even mentioned that they had already carried out a review on the system and the research paper (or whatever they are called) had already been completed, but I hear the president wants to start another review, just a chance for more wastage, some commission and tenders to be floated.

How on earth can normal people compare a kid sitting an exam at some academy in nairobi to another kid studying under a tree in some rural area.
