We need both Chinese and the East, the Western World and much more active engagement with our African neighbors.
I think Kibaki did pretty well for the economy. However he allowed his cronies to create the impression that some tribes were more favored than others hence inviting repulsion from many.
He also allowed a lot of underhand deals to happen during his time, so he didn't take as good care of our national resources as he should have.
He could have been much more engaged with the country and put all his hands on deck. But this might speak more about his personality and outlook than anything.
Overall good for economy, Bad for a sense of nationhood and Bad for Removing the Culture of Corruption and Impunity.
I hope the next man continues with his good economic policies, but is much more engaged in rooting out corruption and bringing the country together.

I personally think the leadership crisis is less a matter of age than values. As long as we have people who see politics as a means to easy money and uncontrolled power - we will be in trouble whether the average age of our leaders is 70 or 30.
I'm looking forward to the new constitution and the impact that will have on our young country and the economy.
