A University of Nairobi lecturer has been shot dead by a gang of robbers in his house in Machakos county.

Prof Stephen Nzuve, 66, was killed on Saturday in Katulu village, Matungulu district, Kangundo police boss Wycliffe Sifuna told the Star yesterday.

Nzuve’s wife told police the professor spent the day with some visitors in his home.

After seeing them off at 6pm, he drove to Tala shopping centre to see a friend.

When he drove back home at around 7pm, five armed men confronted him at the gate and forced their way into his compound.

The gang ordered him out of his car and the three went with him into his house and demanded money, his ATM cards and PIN numbers.

They ordered him to sit in a sofa set and shot him in the stomach, Sifuna said.

The police boss said the gang locked the professor’s wife and the maid in his car and sped away.

The thugs are reported to have withdrawn Sh10,000 from Nzuve’s account at an Equity ATM in Tala on Saturday night.

Could be some trigger happy movie watching young criminals. Quite callous and brutal. This so sad. Why kill after stealing from the victim? Pole to the bereaved family

Sad kabisa...

These days if they come calling you will be lucky to escape with your life. Most of these young lads have never killed. They are making their maiden kill and feeling for the first time how a gun sounds and watching how one dies.

Seems he was shot in his rural home. Sad. That is where one is supposed to be safest.

mostly on drugs and very erratic, but we are sinking to crazy levels, very many young kids out there whose only way out of poverty as they are told is through crime.

Leadership need to find a way of distributing economic activity, otherwise it gets worse everyday.

He was learned:

Quote:
The professor had over 35 years of university teaching experience in Business Management.

He attended Castleton State College and Frostburg State University, USA, the University of St Etienne and University of Grenoble in France and earned a doctorate in Business Administration from Switzerland.

According to residents, Prof Nzuve’s shooting is the fourth incident in the past few weeks. After shooting the don, the gunmen attacked a pastor, Bernard Musyoka, a few metres from the professor’s residence.

Building a nice house in the village may be asking for trouble.
