Seems the aggressive lending has come back to bite them. At one point last year you couldn't enter a Stanchart branch and not get sold a loan. I entered Koinange st branch at this time last year, despite me never having an account at Stanchart and insisting I don't need a loan, the young lady gave me ideas of what I can do with the money like I can buy a plot or start a business!!!
They broke the cardinal rule of the client is supposed to seek the loan, not the loan seeking you.

@Boris in that thread, I just said that your friend is not bound to take your advise, however sound it is. I did not disagree with your advise to your friend.

I'm surprised that guys are reacting like this to Stanchart. Can someone correct me if I'm wrong, but these guys are actually reporting their provisions. Mind you if you look at their provisions this year, they are actually provisioning accounts on watchlist from last year financials, this year they aren't giving any loans. They are taking the pain this year for growth next year and beyond, like pruning leaves. In my view this is the time to buy.

Also with their long record of consistency and discipline, I'm more confident about what is in their books than say Equity, KCB, NBK or even Coop.

Again, can someone please correct me if they think my reasoning/logic is wrong.

U are partially right, but the problem here is more in loss of deposits in this tight liquidity race
