its neither. But be warned Rav4's are notorious for rolling and for easily losing control owing to a low wheel base and high centre of gravity - not to mention that they are fabricated out of recycled beer cans smile Go to any cop station and see how many wrecks look like they rolled (roof damage, sides, etc) - not head on collisions.

Good for some mild off road adventures. Bad for high speed driving in unpredictable conditions (i.e. Nairobi - where matatus do what they want, women waltz across zebra crossings when your light is green, goats, kids, cyclists, etc). Even if you have the reflexes of a cyborg, you will roll that thing if driving fast and attempt to avoid a hazard....

The mere fact that you asked is indication that Rav 4 leans towards being a ladys car.
& no toyota did not plan to make it a 'feminine' car.... Its just that women tend prefer cars that are affordable, practical and safe looking (read perception), and with a touch of style... and chic.

Rav4 is not particularly designed as a 4x4 (though some are 4WD).

In Europe (at least UK) the latest Rav4 has no spare wheel (not even that spacesaver wheel), Instead it has an aerosol can just like..... Ford Focus etc. Rav4 not considered for rough use.

All Rav4s I have ever dealt with have been owned/used by women.

Disclaimer: These are my views and not Toyota's or Ford's or anyother car maker/dealer and are open to dispute.

Personally, I don't like them (though my wife does) and @djinn has aptly described as being rather unstable. I've driven one and was rather hesitant at driving it at more than 100.

There's 2WD and 4WD editions, usually 1800cc and 2000cc, and i think has a 2.4L edition for 2006.

It's interesting to note that price-wise a brand new VW Tiguan costs about the same if not less.

They are pretty popular though, just look around.

RAV 4's are nice daily drive cars but don't handle well especially on high speed. Personally don't understand y people pay so much for them.

The biggest ups for a Rav4 is that it has the best resale value among its peers! ie. CRV, Extrail, Forester, Escudo/Vitara
