...a really good song is written..and then performed magnificently...thus Brandy's "Too Little Too Late".

http://bit.ly/dqRfhU

Its of special significance if you know of someone (woman) in an abusive relationship...

A hauntingly, beautiful and plaintive song if I may say so...

Same goes for 'How Come How Long' by Babyface. Heard it was based on the O.J Simpson saga......

@Djinn, listened, good, but is it better than... (by Brandy)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K0uWe6kjyj0

Almost made you love me
Almost made you cry
Almost made you happy, baby...

...but you can't get to heaven
Half off the ground
Everybody knows
Almost doesn't count

...I can't keep on lovin' you
One foot outside the door
I hear a funny hesitation
Of a heart that's never really sure

@Muganda - I concur...however, when I look at what I consider my top 5 female vocalist, my criteria varies broadly such that even for just ONE song, a place is earned, or for consistency, or impact....who I think are my top 5 vocalists (and why)...

1 - Whitney Houston (consistent, powerful, emotional, moving....songs where her vocal prowess are most noticeable: "On my own" and the US National Anthem (there is a lot of debate about which female singer really infuses emotion and pride in the "Star Spangled Banner" - I think she does and have compared performances by Mariah Carey (useless!), Jordin Sparks, etc
2 - Sara McLachlan (bite me...I edged out Celine Dion for her...but I think she sounds like an Angel)
3- Lauryn Hill - (she makes it into my top 5 for just ONE song ("His eye is on the sparrow" with CeCe Winans) I wish she did more gospel stuff...and I also wish she never belonged to the Fugees - wasted time IMHO. Her songs in Sister Act really showed her prowess....
4 - Brandy (mainly for "Come a little bit closer" and the link I gave above)
5 - I think this slot should be shared between ...Alicia Keys, Jordin Sparks, Mary J Blige and Faith Evans....

BTW, I'd also put our own Susanna Owiyo in top ten for vocals.

For male vocalists, not in any particualr order - James Ingram, Brian McKnicht (but just for ONE song - "One last cry"), Lionel Richie, Elton John (bite me!)....

One foolish world so many souls
Senselessly hurled through
The never ending cold
And all for fear and all for greed
Speak any tongue
But for God's sake we need

Las palabras de amor
Let me hear the words of love
Despacito mi amor
Let me know this night and evermore

[/i]......

You have been to Mercury hotel in Zanzibar??....Next time you pass by just remember the hotel stands where Freddie Mercury was born and it's named after him.

Vintage stuff, eh? (now I have to revise my estimation of your age by adding abt 15 years GOR!!)

...if we're going back that far...then we might as well throw Sam and Charles Cooke, Elvis Presley, Rickie Valens, etc onto the table for discussion...

Its close to mid night
And something evil's larking in the dark
Under the moonlight
You stop to see a star that almost stops your heart

Some classics..

1. Phil Collins-Do Remember
There was always something more important to do
More important to say
But 'I love you' wasn't one of those things
And now its too late...now its too late

Do you Remember...

2.Who's Fooling Who - Double You

You thought when you had left me
That you'd really tear me apart
But what you didn't understand
Is that you really didn't own my heart

You went out and did everything
Made me stay at home
But all the time while you were out there girl
I wasn't always at home alone

Tell me who
Who's fooling who
Are you fooling me
Or I am fooling you
Who's fooling who
Who's fooling who
Were you fooling me
Or was I fooling you

You see while you thought
You were seeking away from me
There was always someone else
That I was waiting to see
But that's really not important now
It's all over said and done
And now that the truth is out little girl
You weren't the only one having fun

You see I got the last laugh
You'va laughed all that you could
But what you didn't know little girl
Is that I always had the winning hand

Look out for this by the Eagles

On a dark desert highway, cool wind in my hair
Warm smell of colitas, rising up through the air
Up ahead in the distance, I saw a shimmering light
My head grew heavy and my sight grew dim
I had to stop for the night
There she stood in the doorway;
I heard the mission bell
And I was thinking to myself,
this could be heaven or this could be hell
Then she lit up a candle and she showed me the way
There were voices down the corridor,
I thought I heard them say...

Welcome to the hotel california
Such a lovely place
Such a lovely face
Plenty of room at the hotel california
Any time of year, you can find it here

Her mind is tiffany-twisted, she got the mercedes bends
She got a lot of pretty, pretty boys, that she calls friends
How they dance in the courtyard, sweet summer sweat.
Some dance to remember, some dance to forget

So I called up the captain,
please bring me my wine
He said, we havent had that spirit here since nineteen sixty nine
And still those voices are calling from far away,
Wake you up in the middle of the night
Just to hear them say...

Welcome to the hotel california
Such a lovely place
Such a lovely face
They livin it up at the hotel california
What a nice surprise, bring your alibis

Mirrors on the ceiling,
The pink champagne on ice
And she said we are all just prisoners here, of our own device
And in the masters chambers,
They gathered for the feast
The stab it with their steely knives,
But they just cant kill the beast

Last thing I remember, I was
Running for the door
I had to find the passage back
To the place I was before
relax, said the night man,
We are programmed to receive.
You can checkout any time you like,
But you can never leave!
It is better to keep your mouth closed and let people think you are a fool than to open it and remove all doubt...
