If you can get through @muandiwambeu's post, you will see what is said makes a lot of sense. Utilities are cash-hungry entities and there's little room from (interesting) dividends.
The reason utilities need/want strategic & cash-rich investors with a long-term horizon is that there is a constant need for investment in a growing economy to feed the demand. The investment needed TODAY are huge since these projects have 20/30/50 year lives not the 'get-rick-quick' projects Kenyans prefer.
The returns for these utilities (think annuities) come over a much longer period after a long period of waiting for the investment to mature. These investments have to weather the weather, political landscape, public ire, tax regime changes, etc.
Greedy when others are fearful. Very fearful when others are greedy - to paraphrase Warren Buffett
