Given that government shareholding is below 30%, and in my view KQ will not be able to repay that debt, options that remain will be conversion of government debt to equity at a later date and in the process allow the government to be the majority shareholder. I wonder what plans KLM has.
Talking of gvt bailouts CS treasury should also set aside cash for Mumias and possibly Uchumi??? Welcome to 2015, the year of bailouts.
Management has ruled out a bailout because for now thet have non- core assets expected to be sold for Kes2B. Let's see how long they can go with this asset sale business. My earlier prediction of a bailout still stands. It is only in Kenya/Africa that we take these things lightly and label them "private matters". Maybe it is because many people including raia behave the same way mpaka it is perceived to be normal! In the west, they ask themselves a simple question: If you cannot be true to your wife and kids, how can you be true to me as a shareholder/constituent/client etc. And that is a very valid question. Anyone who can betray his family can betray you in a heart beat!!! Many a C.E.O./Politicians have lost their jobs because of this! In Kenya we lowered the bar too low till finally we did away with the bar! Never count on making a good sale. Have the purchase price be so attractive that even a mediocre sale gives good returns.

It would be interesting to know how supermarkets which are not quoted at the NSE perform. what kind of profits do NAIVAS, Nakumatt, Tuskys generate .
Ofcourse we see them opening many branches but it would be insightful if it was possible to see their financials

Tuskys must have been making huge profits...Several managers made away with millions n millions but their outlets are still stocked. The family wrangles caused the loopholes. Wah! 200M pm for 12 months is equal to 2.4 B in annual support to both Uganda and Tanzania. It is like loosing Gong Rd Hyper in under a year. Happy to see that this has been stopped. But I still wonder if that "support" used to be applied for true business activities. Time is money, so money is time. Money saved is time gained in reverse! Money stores your life’s energy. Someone need to take Uchumu private and restructure it. Hard to think a retail company like Uchumu can be making losses in a market like Kenya

Of Time by employees .. There were so many instances where people would walk in to uchumi and find the attendants not present or idling. Most of the shelves were either under stocked or just pathetic. Am I allowed to guess that a competitor will purchase the properties and later exploit some loopholes in the leaseback contract to kick uchumi out? Pesa Nane plans to be shilingi when he grows up.

Like, what if Naivas or Tuskys buys the property, they can't let out to a competitor, au sivyo? I think the purpose of that "Buy and Lease Back" statement is just to assure the bidders that there is a ready tenant. Receive with simplicity everything that happens to you.” ― Rashi
