Pessimistic view of the future

I believe many churches today will be talking about the SCOTUS (did I say it right?) decision last week on plug to plugs, airports to airports unions. people will predict fire and brimstone similar to the days of sodom and gomorrah on the US. I remember a while back we really feared the year 2000 and lots of negativity on what it would me... the Y2k bug was touted to make planes drop from the sky and nuclear reactors to explode. It was quite a spectacle. Last year we had Ebola in west africa we had doomsday scenarios play out (remember the question of whether it was airborne?) pretty scary stuff and now we have MERS or whatever they call it in Korea. I remember growing up in the 80s and dunia wiki hii would paint an image of a world on the brink of fighting... we had stories from Beirut (car bombs) and Syria. We had the issues with the cold war and mutually assured destruction. I remember my first crusade by some american pastor huko Kanu street in Naks sometime in the mid eighties... He shouted "Jesus is coming soon!" and the interpreter shouted "Yesu anakuja Karibu" a number of times and I thought... wow... he should be here before monday.... or next month... maybe next year. I remember end time prohesies being made and the role of Russia (replaced now by China) in the Gog & Magog war. Movies such as a thief in the night reminded us of being "left behind". All these things and sources of information have done something that they may have been engineered to do or was just a by product. WE HAVE ENDED UP WITH A VERY PESSIMISTIC VIEW OF THE FUTURE. We seem to like to go back to the "good" old days. where life was simple (an simple diseases would kill you real easy). When we look at yesterdays future (i.e. today) - it's not as bleak as we were told or thought and so we are still "waiting for it". Aren't you guys TIRED of waiting for it? waiting for "the big one"! I am tired of living with a negative outlook of the future and raising kids to "beware of their future coz something real bad will happen.....soon". All evidence shows we are much better off than our parents and their parents... where is this big bad thing coming from? I am tired of "waiting for it" na kukaza rasa.... like it's my responsibility to make "it" happen.... All Mushrooms are edible! Some Mushroom are only edible ONCE!

You speak like a foolish virgin, who gave up at the 11th hour just before the Bridegroom arrived at midnight! Now like never before is the time to trim your lamps and fill them with oil. MORE THAN EVER before. We have another example with Noah and the people in his day who doubted God's provided way of escape from the flood's destruction until it was too late for them.
When the Son of Man comes, will He find faith on the earth? God help us.

Your inability to separate issues makes your rant appear to be without base.
If you had to talk about religion sister Guru looks charged to tackle it without fear or favour. You are fond of denying us the thrill of watching you dance with her. 'Chickenism'.
And when you assure yourself that 'we' are better off than our parents have you checked out the old Nairobi thread for illustration?

When the Son of Man comes, will He find faith on the earth? God help us. First of all, lol, i don't even know where to start with this one. Ok, let me see. If the foolish virgin gave up at the 11th hour before the groom arrived at midnight what's the problem with that? Does it mean that she should be turned down now because she is not a virgin anymore? I know it's metaphorically speaking but it's still as dumb an example as hell. Secondly, were you there when this Noah guy built that ark and had two animals of every kind board? Or are you just regurgitating fairy tales you were told in Sunday School by brainwashed religious nuts? A lion, an antelope, croc, leopard, deer were all in the same ark and they all mysteriously forgot to go primal on each other? Do you guys really believe these stories or are you usually just messing with us? Lol. You have to be really weak minded to believe such a dumbass story just because it's written in your equally dumb and stupid "holy" book. You and your hot tempered god have no common sense. Let's hypothetically say that this flood really happened.....how exactly was that a good thing? Drowning people including children because your asshole god was angry and the best way he could think of handling the situation was to mass murder people? What a piece of shit god he is for doing that. And here you are blindly praising such a stupid move because you are too stupid to see the evil portrayed in such a story and the fact that your god is a murderer and a sadist. You people are way too stupid to think rationally. Your ill tempered and stupid god needs to be in f***ing prison for such a travesty against humanity. Wtf? Trim your lamps and fill them with oil? How laughable. Listen. Nothing is going to happen in your lifetime and in the next lifetime and the lifetime after that. The world is not ending and neither are we going anywhere. We will all just live and die when our time comes and pave way for new generations to come up, live their lives and leave this earth for the generation after that and on and on. Only losers predict doom. People who can't hack it on this earth like to think that there is a better place for them after they die, well, guess what? That is not happening. Once you are dead, you are worm food, unless you can show me somebody that died and came back with pictures of his big mansion in heaven and the gold-paved roads and whatever else you delusional people fantasize about in that imaginary place called heaven. This earth is all you get, it's up to you to make it your "heaven" or your " hell". Us Atheists understand that and that is why we live life to the fullest because we know that you only live once. It's called reality, there is no heaven, religious people like to console themselves with that myth but it's a copout and a defeatist way of living life. This jesus guy you keep waiting for never existed and is never coming back. Coming back for what? What exactly would he be coming to do? Where will he stay? In the States, Israel, Afghanistan, Kenya? Will he still ride camels and donkeys ama he will embrace technology and maybe buy himself a nice Range Rover? How will he earn an income? Will he go back to carpentry? Ama he will become a broker and sell land in bethlehem? Actually if he will still a carpenter, i need a new dining table maybe he can make one for me so i can tell people that that jesus guy who died for our sins (stupidest thing i have ever heard) made me the table. That would be super cool. Actually i have an extra minute or so, let's talk about this dying for our sins business. What exactly did he accomplish by dying for us? How did that make the world better? Who asked him to die for us? Some of us don't want somebody to die for us over some imaginary shit because quite honestly, that would be a really dumb way to die. Life is too precious, i don't want a dumbass guy dying for nothing then claiming that he did it for me without asking me if that was ok with me. If he wants to do something for me, maybe he can buy me a cocktail on Friday instead of dying "for me". I will throw him back a bottle of wine to show my appreciation, and we can become buddies after that. Plus i heard that he likes wine that's why he used to go around turning water into wine, so i know he will appreciate my bottle. Lol. Ok. Enough for today.

@masukuma - What evidence shows we are "better off" than our parents and their parents and how do you define better off? We are destroying nature, wasting resources and systematical killing ourselves. The use and abuse of psychiatric medication and other drugs is also up. Is there anything wrong or right with that? Depends on your belief system and or world view. Should optimism, pessimism or realism matter? Depends on your belief system and or world view. Clash of civilizations. Quote:The Clash of Civilizations is a theory that people's cultural and religious identities will be the primary source of conflict in the post-Cold War world. Even this thread is a 'clash of belief systems' and that also includes @hamburglar. You could say the more 'freedom' we have, the more we're using it to 'enslave' others to our world views and belief systems. Does it or should it matter? Depends on your belief system and or world view.

The folly of humans is waiting for someone to come and save them while they read that they must save themselves first. Most of you will die before the "messiah" comes back or this "rapture" stuff you keep on yapping about. Take care of your kids now, that is why you are here. Jose: If I make it through this thug life, I'll see you one day. The Lord is the only way to stop the hurt.

That's ok. You have expressed your opinion, now we leave the rest to God. Just remember what you've written shall be judged on the Great White Throne Judgment Day. That's not me making empty threats. The only sin that cannot be forgiven is blasphemy. That's the Word of God! I pray for your lost soul, and now even more I realize the gift of salvation. Some were predestinated for destruction, the same way Esau was hated in his mother's womb yet his twin brother Jacob was loved by God even before they were born! However, you still have free will. It is so humbling because I'm the most unworthy. I speak for myself because salvation is a personal relationship with God.
I've had several people close to me (born again Christians) pass on, and I watched them go. At that moment they were able to transcend this physical dimension and they relayed particular things and people they were seeing in real time. Those events leave no shadow of a doubt that there's an afterlife. In fact on the other side of Jordan, "life" is more real than the impersonation of life here on earth. When you talk of "Kenya, Israel, Afghanistan" I need proof that those places exist. No kidding! You need more faith to believe that there's a land called Kenya, than faith to believe in the Lord Jesus and Heaven.
I will be praying for you to find the Truth before it is too late. Hell is so terrible, so please I implore you to do anything, even if it means death, not to go there. It is so bad, beyond your worst imagination. A place of regrets, terror and torment.
Make Jesus Christ your personal Savior today. He will fill every desire of your heart so you will never thirst again.

You can't factor in everything unless you know everything but I accept your views on what constitutes a 'better life' and your new resolution. Have a shot of awe.Death, destruction and suffering are a part of nature and humans continue to contribute to that goal. There is nothing pessimistic about that.In fact you have shown it is more realistic to expect it in one form or another.
