Not a good signal for insurance sector when gok watchdogs engage one another in supremacy fights.

This plus the mixed performance of the insurance sector and the current NSE mood explain the sellside pressure facing this sector stocks.

This is the definition of bancassurance:
http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bancassurance

So why would a 'respected' paper like BD (1/5/2015 pp 9) say that the newly formed Barclays Life Assurance Kenya will be 'competing against players like JHL, Pan Africa Holdings and Britam' while in actual sense they'll just be brokers for them?
Rather than being competitors of my beloved JHL they will instead increase it's reach-and kill insurance brokers instead.

Very interesting point at the AGM today.
A bonus of 1:10 declared. You have 9 shares. Technically, you've earned 0.9 of a bonus share therefore not qualified for a bonus share.
However, the value of a share is ksh 500, which means you are entitled to ksh 450, but you get nothing, is this fair?
The JHL lawyer said that allocation of part of a share is not allowed, but what can be done is the bonus allocated but not issued can be sold on the open market and the affected shareholders compensated appropriately.
Someone suggested that since JHL only has 6,400 shareholders, assuming half are affected, the company can just round this up at the cost of only 3,200 shares at most.
Mr. Juma said the board will discuss and also consult CMA before a decision is taken.

JIC is looking up and NMG down so it depends on the direction you want your investment prospects to go.

Fair point @whiteowl. Why is @charming soul thinking so much... activity, as in trading, is not your friend.

Oops @charming soul, my bad (I'm getting that often of late!).

I was trying to say that both JUB and NMG are owned by Aga Khan. Whereas JUB has given you good return, the unspoken reason one would consider a switch is because of the human urge to keep 'active' or 'busy' that trading often satisfies.

However, time is the friend of the beautiful company. JUB grew last year at 26% whereas NMG has been struggling to break even. Which mirrors the tribulations of Publishing as compared to Insurance industry.

At face value, dividend can also be very misleading. Would you pick NMG's (5% div yield, -40% price loss) over JUB (1.36% yield, 20% price gain)?
