Every single day everybody I see around me seems to be chasing one thing and one thing only!

So whether we admit it or not, capitalism has taken over. We judge by the clad, the mobile, the wheels = money, comfort, luxury.

And we look down on anyone who doesn't measure up! So when I see a poor person, I see another failure. What am I missing...

...exactly!
...and the poor are being seen as the scam of the earth...Even in churches, the only places the poor should seek saccour, are being kept off...

...last sunday in a prominent Nairobi church, this advert of a certain Maxwell 1 day workshop on 'Value based leadership' was shown in that church. The cost of attending the workshop is Ksh 65,000. Of course there must be something in it for the pastors there, but if a poor man came to announce the loss of his goat, he would be sent out of town by the same pastors!!!

@Muganda,
Money,comfort and luxury isn't equal to happiness or is it?....Again,the scriptures are clear on mankind.ALL OF US CAN"T BE THE SAME just like the fingers of our hands.
Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm.

@Njunge, it is very sad. Slavery never stoppped and still continues to this day, 1% of the population controlling 90% of the wealth. Who knows, may be the old guy from the Zeitgeist is right, we have to move to a resource-based economic system because one thing is clear, Capitalism isn't working.

of course we need poverty, and for poverty to be continually cast as a failure! You guys don't be selfish, otherwise where would we take all those NGOs, proposal writers, impt meetings at the G-7 & G-20, a chance for our leaders to dip their hands into all those fancy poverty-related kitties, and so on?

@Njunge very true. Difficult to appreciate the other fingers if they're all trying to be the thumb.

Is there a poor person who we often look up to? It seems we choose to look up to them when it's a rags to riches/glory story...
