The Aaron Ramsey Injury

Yes, football makes us drink beer, howler like the Alouatta Alouattinae, pee our pants, punch the air and bite our nails. But I DO NOT EVER want to see this happening on the pitch again.

This 19 year old Welshman, fantastic player and full of potential, did not deserve this. Ryan Shawcross and Stoke as a whole should be held accountable. Shame!

I sincerely believe that Shawcross had no intention of harming Aaron.....You must ask yourself why it so often seems to happen to Gunners and here is why....They hold on to the ball too long thus increasing the chances of contact. When you pass around the ball to spaces like Westham does, while taking every opportunity to give out the ball, you will always escape with minor or no injuries.

Oh, I did not know that "staying too long with the ball" was wrong. Aren't there other teams that "stay too long" with the ball? Barcelona perhaps? smile

If this happened to Wayne Rooney, Shawcross, crying and all, would not be on the England team for the match with Egypt this week.

Weeee Njunge, that theory, IMHO is wrong... The key thing is these inferior teams are taught that to have any chance of beating the gunners, you have to get stuck in. Because gunners dont like it rough. So people like showgross want to show that they're on the pitch. by the way, showgross also broke franny jeffer's ankle in 2007. he also injured adebayor back in 2009. so he's no nice guy as they try to tell us... non football players like showgross should just be out of the game.

Is it because Arsenal move the ball around so quickly, that these lesser-talented individuals keep connecting with man not ball?

That is part of the reason but not all of it. Arsenal do keep the ball better than most and the degree to which they have possession throughout the game does frustrate the opposition.

Yet both Manchester United and Chelsea have actually made more successful passes this season than the Gunners. Arsenal have made 10,662 to United’s 10,914 and the Blues' 10,938.

Are Arsene Wenger’s side actually getting fouled more than other teams? The answer is no.

Three other teams have been kicked more than the Gunners this season. Arsenal are fourth in the ‘most-fouled table’. They have won 383 fouls this term, compared to Hull City, who have 387, and Everton and Spurs, who have received 390 apiece.

If you want to understand why the Gunners are repeatedly on the end of such brutal treatment, the key statistic is the disciplinary table.

Arsene Wenger’s men are second in this league only to nice-guys Fulham. Arsenal have 41 points as opposed to Manchester United, who sit in sixth place with 48 points, while Chelsea are happy to be mid-table on this occasion with 52 points.

What this tells you is that the other Premier League contenders are happy to dish it out as well as receive it. If your opponents know that you’re a bit tasty when it comes to a fight, then they’ll think twice about the way they treat you.

@jguru, Shawcross's remorse was genuine. Remember the Eduardo injury? Mr. Bean retracted his earlier remarks that the guy who inflicted the injury (can't remember who it was) should never be allowed to play again. I remember the guy went to visit Eduardo in hosi and they just stared at each other - what do you say in such a situation?

But Eduardo is back now for you Gooners so even Ramsey will get through this.

Perhaps Arsenal (or everyone else for that matter) should start dishing it out.

3 broken legs in 4 years is quite an alarming statistic. If you remember the Diaby incident - Arsenal were leading, it was end of the season, end of the game - there was no need for the challenge, no not the challenge, the assault.

I'm pretty sure if it was one of the England Golden boys (gerrard, lampard, terry, rooney), or even walcott for that matter, the story in the english press would be quite different.

Funny - I don't see such tackles while watching spanish soccer. Italians - maybe (but then they are thugs).

Shawgross - probably didn't mean to hurt the guy I think, but problem is that he has a 'record'.

If you broke someone's leg on a park playing football, you'd be taken to court for grevious bodily harm.
That dhead shawcross had zero chance of getting that ball on Saturday and I think what needs to ahppen is that the team that breaks a players leg should pay his wages until he returns or for a period of upto 6 months.

Sir Alex Ferguson rang Showcross after the incident to give him support. The season of mind games is here with us.

Incidentally, the guy who broke Diaby's ankle had only played a few games in the premier league. It looked like he was brought in to injure someone. I do not think he ever played another premier league game. I think the English players look at foriegners as mercenaries out to take their jobs

Dan Smith (Sunderland) breaks Diaby's leg. Smith's last club was Gateshead following a short spell in Scotland and it is understood he now works in a call centre selling gas and electricity.

Martin Taylor (Birmingham) breaks Eduardo's leg. Taylor is now a Championship player with Watford having dropped out of the picture at Birmingham.

Ryan Shawcross (Stoke) breaks Ramsey's leg. Get’s his name in the English team 2 hours later.

Coincidence? No…

This is not the first time Shawcross has broken a players leg. He broke Franice Jeffer’s leg at the ankle after a needless tackle from behind. And why not ask Adebayor what he thinks of this player? Adebayor was out last year for a month after Shawcross “assaulted” him when he and the ball were off the pitch.

Shawcross is a typical English centre half, which is something that he shouldn't be proud of at all. He is limited in his ability as a footballer and he is slow. This style and this type of player will NEVER win England the World Cup.

Enough is enough. Now FIFA, UEFA and the FA need to improve the quality and standards of referees so they can stamp these fouls out of the game. The referee had to look first at the injury to be swayed in giving the red card. Peter Wanton was probably fine with how the Stoke players were physically treating the Arsenal players, just as long as no Arsenal player got killed or parts broken. Unfortunately, Ramsey's leg broke. Despite pre-match talk of roughing up Arsenal's players, the blame should fall mostly on referees for allowing thugs to carrying out their threats.

Henry Norris writing in the Bugle: "The sooner thugs like Stoke and their gobby manager, brain dead fans, pathetic ground, officious stewards, awful pies and ghetto of a town leave football to those who can play it and are relegated the better."

" I would like to tip my hat to Stoke's Glenn Whelan who, unlike most of the other players who immediately surrounded the referee, instead stopped to attend to the stricken Ramsey and then stayed by his side while the paramedics attended to him.

Whelan has never been a teammate of Ramsey's for either club or country (Whelan is an Irish international, Ramsey Welsh). It was merely the act of a decent man with presence of mind while all around him were losing their heads.

In situations like this, it is easy to blame anyone and everyone - Shawcross, Wenger, the media, the FA, global warming - for such a terrible and career-threatening injury. I find the whole thing tiresome and ultimately futile. It is much harder to give anyone due credit, particularly when that person doesn't make a big song-and-dance about it publicly. So let me do it: Glenn Whelan, thank you. "

Well put @jguru, and I think Wa_ithaka might have a point there, about compensating the plaintiff.

That said, I think personally if I was a player I would try and avoid some balls where I probably have no chance of getting there first. I have noticed that some of the top strikers avoid 50 50 balls, unless they're out for a revenge tackle. I'm trying to imagine the agony Djibril Cisse went through breaking the same leg twice, just before world cup or Euro cup tournaments. takes character to get back up and play the same way

@slammers: Arsenal are not a dirty team or even a physical one. And that shall remain for a long time to come.

There is not a single team in the Premier League that would dare to play Arsenal in a 'proper' game of football; they would have their cloth cut out for them. That explains the instructions from the EPL managers to target the player and not the ball.

@Jguru,
I can't agree less on Whelan. That's a decent lad.On the tackles,it was telling even by body language. You should have seen how that Jamaican air-head (Fuller...Although i think he should be Emptier) was behaving after the tackle.
