That said, with 3 undersea fibre cables, we should be paying 1k for 1 month unlimited internet. Safaricom giving 50gb at 4k is nonsense.

It all boils down to the devices you are using. 3G devices can stream upto about 10GB on a 30hr/month. 4G devices use up/consume higher. I would like to know how many GBs those on Zuku are consuming, even if its unlimited, they state the data usage on your bills. "There are only two emotions in the market, hope & fear. I have watched 1hr BBC documentaries at HD 720p and one ends up using about 1gb. Streaming American tv channels at 1080p uses nearly double the data.

Bamba Tv gives the same channels as Safcom. Just one off box cost. So, safcoms tv offering isn't special or unique. I will check my Zuku bill to see how much I'm using. But I don't think bundles can work in this space. Business opportunities are like buses, there's always another one coming

In all the comments, why do I feel we're missing another point - how wide is the coverage of 4G?
It will come down to Zuku's 100 channels (+FTA) with unlimited internet on fibre/coaxial VS Safaricom's FTA with 3G bundles

My Zuku ebill does not show usage stats. I dont think Bigbox is 4G, looked like it was 3G. Business opportunities are like buses, there's always another one coming

My phone maybe 1-2gb...in a house hold most users will use 30gb per person per month averagely ie if they all have laptops and like YouTube (that is what i calculated). For a family or individuals who are away during the day 50gb is enough....BUT ZUKU IS STILL KING

But the internet speed will determine rate of consumption. Low internet speeds will slow down consumption. For me 50gb is enough for just one person with average youtube usage

What happened to the Safaricom fiber that was laid every where, there was one laid right outside my gate but I have not heard any offers from them apart from the pilot at Nyayo estate, If they start connecting homes on that fiber at the pilot prices of 2,999/- then that will work. To Each His Own

All in all it is some good business move by Safaricom. This is not just a set top box - whose functionality is like 2% of the box. This is in fact a very powerful signal repeater. It's like a microcell, an indoor base station that receives and amplifies safaricom signals. It also provides wifi calling. The net effect of this will be that Safaricom customers will enjoy significantly better quality calls and reception - even if you don't have the box, if one of your neighbours has it you'll get great reception. You'll note that weekends are when Safaricom has the most signal issues - and most people are at home weekends. When you plug this box in, you'll be helping Safcom improve their quality of service - and the power bill is on you........good stuff!!! ..."Wewe ni mtu mdogo sana....na mwenye amekuandika pia ni mtu mdogo sana!".

I think they connected this to their base stations so that they stop leasing fibre from other companies. Plus Safaricom used to think the home fibre internet market was not that profitable.

What's a kawaida guy? If youre not using 50gb or more, then why do you need the box? Just use a dongle or your phone. Therein lies the error of Safaricom's logic. Business opportunities are like buses, there's always another one coming

Therein lies the error of Safaricom's logic. If a dongle works for you.....perfect! you were definitely not the target market. The kawaida guy is one person who doesn't live by their TV. Who watches TV when they want to for leisure, who doesn't have to download anything because they can watch it on demand. The only evidence we have so far shows only one guy uses more than 50GB here on Wazua. Where are the other zuku subscribers? "There are only two emotions in the market, hope & fear.
