It is possible that there were oil refineries before the floods .Gen 6:14 God advised Noah to cover the Ark with pitch ( tar)

pitch is a black glue- like substance left behind when
coal tar is heated or distilled . It belongs to the same family of substances as asphalt or bitumen.

The mythical import of gold is everlasting perfection.

yeah... the concept of the streets of gold have always baffled me - why? gold is only valuable because it's rare (and noble)! not because it's beautiful having lots of it kinda kills the value of Gold.... it's not the best building material for roads.

The meaning we give to symbols in the deepest areas of mythical space contrasts greatly with the normal day to day meanings. Like 'road' isn't a construction like Uhuru highway, but a basis for being. A golden road is a perfect and noble basis for being.

Ant known gold deposits in the middle east?

I don't know if there are or there have been gold deposits in the ME. But their actual or physical existence is unnecessary in issues regarding myth. Only knowledge of it's symbolism is sufficient.

If its a myth then it should have been inspired by the surroundings. If there are no gold deposits then the middle-easterners must have envied other societies that had gold......the land of cush may be?

A myth isn't inspired by surroundings. Surroundings are the myth. Cush is a myth. Reality is a myth.

Do the Chinese worship funny gods? How are myths to be evaluated? By number of sky scrapers? We're so likely to confuse issues here.

Well, I often think one should ask a question in case of failure to understand.

'Cush is Ethiopia'; I doubt whether you've reflected on this expression. Though I know you may really want to use Ethiopia as a source of envy for your argument.

Here's a start, if you can figure out the gist of my argument then we can engage - minus your self important attitude of course.

Cush , also spelled Kush (/ kʊ ʃ, k ʌʃ/ ; Biblical:
כּוּשׁ Kûš ), was according to the Bible the
eldest son of Ham, who was a son of Noah . He
was the brother of Mizraim (Egypt), Canaan
(land of Canaan), and Phut, and the father of
the Biblical character Nimrod mentioned in
the " Table of Nations" in the Genesis 10:6
and I Chronicles 1:8. Cush is traditionally
considered the eponymous ancestor of the
people of the "land of Cush," an ancient
territory that is believed to have been located
on either side or both sides of the Red Sea .
As such, "Cush" is alternately identified in
Scripture with the kingdom of Meroë , ancient
Aethiopia, and/or the Arabian peninsula

Back to the discussion. It shouldn't always be about you.

The queen of sheba came to Jerusalem "with a very great retinue, with camels bearing spices, and very much gold, and precious stones" (I Kings 10:2). "Never again came such an abundance of spices" (10:10; II Chron. 9:1–9) as those which she gave to Solomon.

Yeah, @murchr, everything doesn't have to be about me. Hahaha! But please read the quote properly. . . and even if the part in red is what you can only see, have you checked on what it refers to? Let me quote it for you.

Aethiopia (Greek Αἰθιοπία) first appears as a
geographical term in classical sources in
reference to the Upper Nile region, as well as
all certain areas south of the Sahara desert
and south of the Atlantic Ocean. Its earliest
mention is in the works of Homer : twice in
the Iliad ,[1] and three times in the Odyssey .
[2] The Greek historian Herodotus specifically
uses it to refer to such parts of Sub-Saharan
Africa as were then known within the
inhabitable world.[3]

The queen of Sheba story:

Modern archaeological studies support the
view that the biblical kingdom of Sheba was
the ancient Semitic civilization of Saba in
Southern Arabia,[1][2][3][4][5] in Yemen ,
between 1200 BC until 275 AD with its capital
Marib. [6][7] The Kingdom fell after a long but
sporadic civil war between several Yemenite
dynasties claiming kingship, [8][9] resulting in
the rise of the late Himyarite Kingdom .

You are clouding your mind. There are those who work so hard to disapprove the fact that Sheba was African. No matter how hard they try to erase the fact its still evident to this day that Sheba came from the Ethiopia we know today. The mix race we see with Ethiopians is as a result of the "wise men" who were sent back with Sheba to "teach" Solomon's son about the God of his fathers..

Now when you copy paste stuff, try to remove the footnote markings...

Lol, first Cush, then Sheba, then Æthiopia all, as you're unwittingly proving are myths- plus copy pasting footnotes!

And even if Sheba is present day Ethiopia, is it still Cush? Hahaha! And you say your mind isn't clouded!

Cush meaning = black

Genesis 10 wrote:
5 By these were the isles of the Gentiles divided in their lands; every one after his tongue, after their families, in their nations.

6 And the sons of Ham; Cush, and Mizraim, and Phut, and Canaan.

7 And the sons of Cush; Seba, and Havilah, and Sabtah, and Raamah, and Sabtechah: and the sons of Raamah; Sheba, and Dedan.

8 And Cush begat Nimrod: he began to be a mighty one in the earth.

Land of Cush — The term Cush is in the Old Testament generally applied to the countries south of the Israelites. It was the southern limit of Egypt (Ezek. 29:10, Authorized Version “Ethiopia,” Hebrew: Cush), with which it is generally associated (Ps. 68:31; Isa. 18:1; Jer. 46:9, etc.).

Ezek 29:10 wrote:
10 Behold, therefore I am against thee, and against thy rivers, and I will make the land of Egypt utterly waste and desolate, from the tower of Syene even unto the border of Ethiopia.

Ezek 30 wrote:
4 And the sword shall come upon Egypt, and great pain shall be in Ethiopia, when the slain shall fall in Egypt, and they shall take away her multitude, and her foundations shall be broken down.

5 Ethiopia, and Libya, and Lydia, and all the mingled people, and Chub, and the men of the land that is in league, shall fall with them by the sword.

Now do you get it?

And back to the original question, if there are no gold deposits in the Middle East, then gold came from Cush.

Look at you murchr, quoting the Bible- a mythical text, and object of discussion and investigation, from Genesis, to prove that one of its referents isn't mythical.

Of course I get it! Sheba is Cush, and Æthiopia is Ethiopia, and your mind isn't clouded and mine is!

I think I should keep off indeed from this 'substance' abuse to uncloud my mind afterall!

Even if the bible is a myth, i guess we are discussing this myth after all on this thread and asking questions without dismissing it but trying to understand it. If that is hard keep off those with relevant opinions for the discussion will keep on. Adios!

Of course the discussion can and will move on. But to understand something one needs to move beyond the thing in question and at least have a workable method, and cogent and consistent argument.

It's amazing you even think Adam refers to a non mythical entity, hence Noah, then Cush. I believe the course you're taking entails a fallacy.

The bible....that you call a myth...is what is on discussion. You don't get it do you?

The bible....that you call a myth...is what is on discussion. You don't get it do you?

I think I've already indicated that the myth in the Bible is what's under discussion. And I also know that Cush isn't modern Ethiopia, and neither is Cush, Sheba! Even modern Ethiopia is a different myth.

So, what's this that I don't get? That you're affirming the object of discussion through disguise and self contradiction?

Adios!

More reason to be sarcastic! Now that's relevant evidence and authority!

But let me let allow you and your unclouded comrades to proceed with your mythology.
