This Britam scandal is more serious than it first appeared. now is the rest of britam innocent or its just the two directors... because we need to gauge if we can trust the board before we buy their shares.
when we talk of good management this is a rare glimpse of the opposite. is the whole board rotten or not?

@murchr, two directors are said to have resigned and the board approved their resignation effective 22 April 2015.

The notification touching on Mr. Moussa I. Rawat was posted on 24 April 2015. Read earlier posts and there is no doubt on his resignation.
The notification touching on Mr. Dawood A. Rawat was posted today 27 April 2015. Read earlier posts and you will see questions on the status of resignation of the "big fish" as some put it. See posts inferring to Mr. Dawoods resignation based on the Newspaper Public Notice. I am yet to come across a notification of his resignation posted earlier than today. Anyone???

@Boris. You didn't understand the gist of the question. Pesa nane , now I get you. Beats me why they didn't have one notice for the two. The poster must have thought it to be a duplicate notice.

Controversial billionaire Dawood Rawat has ceded his stake in Britam and quit the firm’s board at the height of a huge financial scam in which he is alleged to have defrauded Mauritian investors of billions of shillings.

The Government of Mauritius yesterday said it would take over the 23.34 per cent stake held in Britam by the beleaguered businessman, giving it control over almost a quarter of the financial services firm.

It will hold the stake valued at about Sh14 billion through the State Insurance Company of Mauritius (SICOM). It is expected that the government will then dispose of it to repay those who lost money in a Ponzi scheme allegedly involving Mr Rawat in his home country.

Womdering the same. Muthaura is the ideal chairman. He has seen rougher times. But being who he is he has enough connections to bail out when the bomb hits home. Those holding this share better have their BP drugs handy. Someone said "bei yangu kobole". It may come to pass.

I think this is a non-issue as he can't serve on a board of a company which owns a substantial shareholding of a competitor

So you are saying that Mr mwangi had an epiphany regarding his conflict of interest a full 4. 5 months after the transfer was finalized and it so happens that britam is facing pyramid scheme accusations.. I think not. For the record munga is yet to resign as a non-executive director in the same firm... his Damascus moment is yet to come through. Mwangi is a smart chap and his reasons for bailing cannot be a non-issue. Centum on the other hand has been having a sweet ride on positive news in its business engagements which should be reset a peg or two.

Munga is still in Britam's Board so I doubt its a conflict of interest issue.

Investment firm Britam has said the recent downward revision of its 2014 profit by Sh342.3 million was done to reverse an erroneous accounting of its ownership of a 21.4-acre piece of land in Ngong’ in the previous year’s books.

Why Britam restated 2014 profit after declaration

While the land was held by a subsidiary, it was accounted for as held by an associate company.

Adjustments to the 2013 numbers were also made in relation to the cost of guarantee on the Deposit Administration product fund and deferred income tax on a life business surplus.

Britam says the restatement of its profit came after it realised that any gains arising from Bramer should not have entered its profit and loss accounts as share of profit from an associate.

Bramer Properties Limited, a fully owned Britam subsidiary, acquired the land in 2013 at a cost of Sh327.6 million.

In accounting terms, Bramer does not qualify as an associate, which is defined as an entity in which a company owns between 20 per cent and 50 per cent equity with significant influence but no control.
