Yes you read right, Chinese language will be introduced as an optional subject in our public primary and secondary schools in the next two years. “small step for man”

This is a good move.Language barrier is a big issue in business. You find only a few guys in a company know English and woe unto you if you visit the company when your English speaking Chinese are absent. At that point I find my broken Chinese more effective to communicate than their broken English.

They weren't taught at my school either but several neighboring ones had one or the other and one very lucky school had both. I recall just a while back a young relative visiting Germany for a fortnight on account of her excellent performance in German. Let's pay our teachers well and they'll be willing to take it up. Life is like playing a violin solo in public and learning the instrument as one goes on.

I really regret not taking french when I had the opportunity... foreign languages literally double you opportunities.... especially french... by just learning french and you can work is francophone countries that are so many especially on our continent All Mushrooms are edible! Some Mushroom are only edible ONCE!

Where are all those wazuans who supported teaching in mother tongue? I know of some who insist the Tanzanian mpango of teaching 'biolojia' in kiswahili is a case of African's loving themselves etc. I fully support this. It will enable us grab opportunities everywhere - including in China. Great men are not always wise, neither do the aged understand judgement...

I fully support this. It will enable us grab opportunities everywhere - including in China. Yes, early childhood should be taught in mother-tongue and later they can learn mandarin, hausa or french

Agreed we need to tech the local languages first.
why .. for one the MCA in the village can communicate and debate more effectively in the village with the supports.
Now imagine the MCA who learned Chinese and cant commuicate to the person he represents.
You have seen these preachers who speak in english and there is an intpreter to the local language. Does not work !!!

I think the more languages someone learns the better off they are. Some are identity languages (ya kwenu - which is fine), there are cohesion languages like Kiswahili and there are opportunity languages such as arabic, french, spanish and chinese. I am on the line on Italian and German as they are predominatly spoken in their countries and we rarely do much there to begin with. All Mushrooms are edible! Some Mushroom are only edible ONCE!
