Swenani, I tend to think this thing is not voluntary. There is some compulsion. Why would anyone go where he is not welcome?

Muriel , would the illusion of safety etc not want you to cross? Besides maybe some of the people do not actually know the fate of those that go before them.

The conditions of economic deprivation and/or political repression are a important push factors that force people to take the risk.

I know not of others from other continents, but the African needs to stop boarding ships to other continents.

Same reason why Kenyans fall for pyramid scams everytime....the risk seems enormous but there is a perception that if one gets worth the reward, it will be totally worth it.
