According to the latest survey, northeastern Kenya has the highest fertility rate in Kenya, with women in c leading nationally with an average of 7.8 children per woman. Other counties with high fertility rates nationally were West Pokot (7.2), Turkana (6.9) and Samburu (6.3)

Still wondering why this thread was popular with wazuans? The fertility rates in Nairobi explains it

Quote:
On the flipside, Kirinyaga (2.3), Nyeri (2.7), Kiambu (2.7) and Nairobi (2.7) had the lowest fertility rates nationally

Among the causes of low fertility rates ,the report doesn't mention shooting blanks which is shocking.

Quote:
Nationally, women from the poorest families were found to have an average of 6.4 children although those aged 19 to 49 had an exceptionally higher fertility rate at an average of 9.4 children each.

Based on my observation, I think the richer you are the higher the chances of you shooting blanks,no wonder many men in wazua are unmarried(JB, I'm addressing you)

Mcreggae, Stop impregnating toddlers

Quote:
Prevalence of early childbearing is highest in the Nyanza region followed by Rift Valley and Coast; it is lowest in central and northeastern region

The richer you get, the more you can afford a healthy lifestyle & medical care therefore the higher the survival rate of your offspring...lineage continuity is the ultimate basic human instinct. The poor will get more tois hoping at the end of day some will survive the harsh reality of life.

Next time they review boundaries, central and Nyanza will be the biggest losers while those arid areas will get more seats in parliament.

But they do survive when theyr many. Unapata families with about 7 kids ni mingi

that was the way it was kitambo even in today's prosperous communities. Only that almost every family had lost a kid or 2 below 5yrs

Ecologically individuals who exist in harsh and unpredictable environments produce more offspring to increase the chances of survival of their offspring ie at least some of the young ones will survive to adulthood and pass on the genes. In stable environments fewer offspring are produced since survival is assured.

This reminds me about something else - ie shouldnt Obama try getting a son to carry on the family name before Mitchell reaches menopause - that is hoping she hasn't yet.

One of the best, if not the best, strategies to lower birth rates is to take our girls to school and keep them there. An educated lady will be better able to decide if and when to have kids and how many. As well, the mere fact of education itself delays onset of child-bearing.

Poor in society sleep early as they don't have access to power, and hence entertainment in the house.

A major source of entertainment then is lungula = many children. Add that to getting married at 18 village girls vs 30 for Nairobi career women.
