@lochaz - As a general rule [learnt through experience] I avoid GoK controlled firms. There needs to be a very compelling reason for buying GoK firms!

KCB has done well but that was AFTER GoK's influence waned while other shareholders became more 'powerful'... there was a time when KCB was technically bankrupt.

Safaricom is run by Vodafone not GoK.

KPLC, KenGen, Kenya Re, KQ, NBK, Mumias have all under-performed and I have a hunch that GoK had plenty of say in each of these!

This is a company owned by heavyweights and carrying their businesses in larger Africa with partners awide. The stock in NSE has not improved after having a bigger than normal perfomance in FY2013. The stock plumeted to lows of 43 afterwards from 72. Some may say it was due to dilution of the stock by creation of new shares for the partner. But the worst or good for that matter is that the said partner entered at 85 per stock. How will the new partner ever recover? Had the new partner pressumed the stock to go up to 120-150 ranges?
Where is the stock headed to?

This could be a good bet for medium term investment. I remember buying in 2009 and it stagnated for almost a year. I was about to bail out when the Ogilvy deal happened and the price shot up.

When will this stock behave like a real Alligator in the waters? The old strong and promising stock faded away though with strong investors and expansion. Is it touching 70 again very soon?
I think I will avoid all stocks with CEOor Chairmen of Indian(Asian) Origin...they seem to be enriching themselves only at the expense of investors.

I beg to differ. SCAN has already made me good money (150% gain without counting the bonus, when I sold early 2013) and I am now accumulating at below 50 for a second bite.

My best performing counters are ARM, Jubilee and DTB.

There must have been a big jerk kind of injection. From 44 to 50 Kes jump? What is happening with the promoter?
Another day it may be back at its old shell of 62 before climbing to 75 and the entry of big guys at 85 Kes?

Time is money, so money is time. Money saved is time gained in reverse! Money stores your life’s energy. You expend your energy, get paid money, and store that money for a future purchase made in a currency.

Wish NSE had cross trades. I'd be long SCAN and short NMG.

SCAN/NMG - long trade i.e. buy SCAN and sell NMG. I foresee that 85 handle getting tested and may be all the way to 100/-
$15/barrel oil... The commodities lehman moment arrives as well as Sovereign debt volcano!

Interesting. Are you forecasting this from charts or fundamentals?

Laughing out loudly During its Hay days I had always considered Scanner to be in the same group as NMG. Where was it left. Will they scan the FY2014 Today or wait for next week?
Atleast this weekend we must go home with something tangible from stocks....Coop, britam, Scanner, Sameer the Yana...etc

If I think advertising will grow, would I buy shares in the guy who draws the adverts, or the guy that does the advertising?

Either, both would have increased sales
