C&P
The air residents of Nairobi breathe is poisonous and can cause serious ailments including heart and lung diseases as well as cancer, a study has revealed.

The amount of cancer-causing elements (carcinogenic material) in the air within the city is as high as 105 microgrammes per cubic metre, the study released on Thursday says.

This means the quality of air Nairobians breathe is 10 times more dangerous if the World Health Organisation’s (WHO) threshold of 20 micrograms per cubic metre for key air pollutants is anything to go by.

Exposure contributes the most to the risk of developing cardiovascular and respiratory diseases, says the study the University of Nairobi’s Institute of Nuclear Science and Technology conducted in partnership with Gothenburg University in Sweden and Columbia University’s Earth Institute.

Did they also carry out a study on nairobians infection threshold level?

I mean people here consume and inhale industrial waste everyday and survive.
Take that away and we all die.

Maybe they have developed immunity after feeding daily on sewage grown sukuma wiki which is contaminated with toxic chemicals and fecal bacteria. Living in this city is a health hazard, a death wish.

Burying their heads in the sand. Living in denial as they breath toxic fumes kwa endless traffic jams and eat sewage masukuma. Then they ask why cancer has exploded.

I cant agree more. Infact, it worries me that apart from consuming it in traffic, a lot of people still find it in order to exercise by the roadside. I tried a few walks sometime ago and the fumes from the vehicles were just too much. I also noted how the walls and plants next to pavement had become black and wondered what would happen with a year of such exercise... you'd actually be killing you faster than sitting on your couch with a bowl of crisps watching tom and jerry.

As a small boy in the village, I used to love the fumes and dust by moving lorries. in fact, we used to chase the vehicles just to inhale that. many years later, i still get the same sensation a times when a Lorry passes me and covers me with dust and smoke fumes.
