There was jubilation in the village. The women ululated and cheered and whistled. The results of the KCSE examination had been announced. My cousin had passed very well. He had scored a D+. That was a record breaking performance compared to the previous year’s performance. He had broken the record of a D- which had been set in the previous year. His target was a D constant. The D- holder was now the current village political analyst and a chicken seller. You could find scores of people seated around him listening very carefully to an expert analysis of the latest news in the village and the country. I attended one of his sessions where he was giving a detailed analysis of the then current topic in the country: The Digital migration. The villagers wholly bought his explanation that the airwaves had migrated to Uganda and other neighboring countries for some time. His explanation was given credence by a trucker who said he had come from Uganda where NTV was still showing. And so tomorrow there will be a thanks giving ceremony in the village to celebrate this achievement. I have been tasked with the responsibility of searching a course for this ambitious and forward looking. I have succeeded in getting him one in aeronautical Engineering in one of our prestigious colleges around town. And so tomorrow let us join hands in celebrating the performance of all students in the country…Not just the select few.
