How many sectors is Samsung group involved in?

Virtually all sectors.

Top-notch shipbuilder.

Leader in chip dev't & manufacturing.

Leader in display panels.

Builder of the tallest building in the world.

Leader in smart phones/phones.

One of the top insurance companies in their home market.

One of the leading soft drinks producer in their home market.

Also involved in petrochemicals, automobile, medicine etc etc.

It's been done successfully elsewhere.

It can be done here.

Cut Mwangi some slack.

And Apple designs & sells (it doesn't even manufacture) fewer products [phones, computers, tablets and software] and makes 5x the profits of Samsung.

@VVS. Apple made a net profit of 37.04B USD in 2013 against Samsung ELECTRONIS' 30.48B USD. Samsung Electronics is a member of the larger Chaebol, Samsung Group which consists of other subsidiaries involved in shipbuilding, insurance, financials, construction, health etc etc.

Never count on making a good sale. Have the purchase price be so attractive that even a mediocre sale gives good returns.

Safaricom is opening a top-notch school in Thika. M-Pesa Academy or something like that.

The MPESA Academy is almost being commissioned the construction is almost complete. So lets not tell JM that he can only focus on loans and Thin SIM. Convergence of technologies and businesses is the way to go. Watu waingie Mbus wenye wako nje!

maybe daktari has gone senile.. this is a worrying time. when KCB is venturing to Mozambique, Ethiopia, Eastern DRC.. Equity is going into a rotten sector, where pay issues abound and skills are scarce. God forbid, but ngoja patients wakose afya njema hapo Equity Afia ndio utajua PR ni mnyama mbaya

Kenyans restrict their imagination too much. Suggesting Equity stick to Banking only is too 1920's!!! You have been given an example of Samsung. Now I will give you another one. Google!!!

Google started as a search engine. They moved to full blown software development. Now they have gone into areas most people cannot even imagine. See links below:

Link 1: Google Launching A Company To Cure <<you will never guess>> = Science & Technology

Link 2: Google X = Technology

Another classical example is General Electric. They are in:

Electrical distribution -Technology
Electric motors - Technology
Energy - Technology
Finance - Technology
Gas - Technology
Healthcare - Technology
Lighting - Technology
Locomotives - Technology
Oil - Technology
Software - Technology
Water - Technology
Weapons - Technology
Wind turbines - Technology

Link: General Electric

Equity is just getting started! I told you this on February last year.
See post#21 in this thread.

In ten, twenty years (God willing) we will be having a totally different discussion. Some of us in yachts and some of us in boats at Uhuru Park. Choices will have consequences.

You need to explain how Equity compares to Google or General Electric. Like you'd explain to a 2 year old

The biggest challenge here is the insufficient skill gap n this country for medics and the available ones have room for improvement...

The King just needs to recruit Dr Wambui Waithaka to run this outfit. She is very clear in her mind what needs to be done and how to do it - that is if the focus is affordable healthcare.

i d rather invest in a business that focusses on a few aspects that they do exceptionally well instead of gambling with a jack of all trades.

remember the hype that equitel created.

The lion is no warrior at sea and the whale is no warrior on land.

some one needs to tell the king that he s dancing naked.

focus.

I find satisfaction in owning great business, not trading them
