I thought "the force" was associated with those show offs from star wars and the hand sign was followed by "live long and prosper" but I may be collected if wrong.

Mr. Spock or Captain Spock?

I guess it depends... he was science officer/ first officer ... I am sure he was captain and commander (not him but his younger version in the rebooted series) and must have been captain at least once in the older flicks. So both apply.
