How will you prove that you bought the meat at a particular butchery?Some of the receipts I have seen do not bear the name of the butchery.

Carry a scale to the butchery.
Pettiness aside you should be more concerned whether the meat is fresh and free from diseases also that the meat is what it is purported to be e.g beef is not swara or punda

When you report the incident, the scales will be checked for accuracy, you do not need to further prove that you bought the meat there, only that the scales are fraudulent. The provides that the scales be confiscated, not that you be compensated. Hope this makes the issue clear.

A butcher who cheats customers in front of their eyes what else do you think he does to cut corners where they won't know? Pray Pray

Move to upmarket butchery with digital scales and good standards. Suing a butchery solves nothing for you unless you get free meat to compensate the pieces stolen over time.

@marketguide,
Why can't the weights and measures guys have a pro-active approach..i,e have their inspectors to periodically pose as customers and then confiscate the weighing scale of the offending butcher there and then!

Or the guy throws down the piece of meat with so much force the scales tilt before the ka quarter katoshee. Nkt

Why do you need to pay 1,000/= to tamper with ratili?

For old school scales the simply put magnets on the chuma below the ka - container that holds the meat. You are already at 100 grams before they put any meat!!! To make sure you don't notice they make sure the other side always has weights. If you want a kilo, and there is a half kg weight, they put the weight for one kilo FIRST then they remove the one for half kg. NEVER the other way round. Tell him to remove all the weights first and you see how kali he becomes while at the same time trying to create organized confusion!!!

For digital scales, they simply key in the wrong unit price because most customers focus on the total/actual price. If you notice, they pretend it was a confusion, key in the correct unit price and pretend nothing happened. Most people don't notice. If a kilo is 500/=, the fellow keys in 600/= as the unit price but your amount due reads 500/= you pay your 500/= and you 'happily' Walk away with 20% less meat!!!

Nairobbery!!! System ya majambazi!
Never count on making a good sale. Have the purchase price be so attractive that even a mediocre sale gives good returns.

And these nonsense is done by employees. Only a stupid business owner can steal blatantly from his/her customer. You could do it for a couple of months or even a year but once your customers realize what has been happening, that is the end of your business.

Very true. Seems you know all the tricks. I would have never noticed the one of the digital weighing machine, because I always assume that since the butcher is almost a pal, he wont konyora me. Next time niko ritho nao.
Its all good.

Butchers have become conmen. Here's what you can do

Find out what is the best course of action when they sell you less meat than you paid for at the butchery
