Muriel wrote:hamburglar wrote:Muriel wrote:tycho wrote:People having 'wayward' beliefs is a problem to Hamburglar. So how does he solve the problem?
He decides to 'PUSH' provoke until something happens.
So, how different is this from 'praying until something happens'? Is his solution superior to that of prayer?
Because he's so successful, and has plenty of money, and he 'knows' many go to God because they don't have money; why doesn't he share his money with the desperate and nurture them in money making ways? Wouldn't that be easier than his 'PUSH'?
Is he as clear headed as he claims?
Or could he be saying all this for some other reason, perhaps hidden from his consciousness? Like as it is for most of us?
The content may be different, but the motive, context, behavior, technique, form is similar to any other persons. Absolutely. Hamburglar cleans slums among other things. I am yet to see the fruits of his clean up e.g. a well cleaned, sparkling slum. He does it with faith that someday it will be better due to his efforts. He is faithful to his opinion. Yet he does not understand why another could be so faithful to his. I think his PUSH could be Perform Until Something Happens. Indeed, the content of his PUSH is different but the motive is the same - he hopes for something better. Just because we do some work in the slums every now and then does not mean that the slums will now become sparkling you nitwit. You religious people are so exhausting. We buy food, take it to slums, participate jn clean up and other activities, not becuase we are miracle workers, but because every little help makes some sort of difference in somebody's life in the slums. We have never said that we are there to transform Kibera into Beverly Hills, it's not a competition, it's just doing whatever you can do to help that next person. That to me is better than going to church to,listen to the performing artist also known as the pastor talking about a lot of nonsense and worshiping a nonexistent god. Honestly, religion is very much like madness. Listen, when i go to the slums, i know that at least i was able to feed one kid even if it was just for one day. Am not doing it for accolades, am doing it because there is a need. Every little bit helps. Haba na haba hujaza kibaba. If one day we leave the slums "sparkling", then that will be a good day, a great day actually, but until then, we will try our level best to play the hands that we have been dealt. Try to reason sometime, it doesn't hurt. Instead of pouring scorn on our efforts to help the slums one day "sparkle", why don't you join in, buy some food this coming Sunday and just drive by one the many slums in Kenya and hand it over to a few kids? That is what would qualify as a "sparkling" thing to do, you dumbass. Or you could just bury your head in the sand and go to church to hear about how some mythical guy walked on water and then drive by the slims later and act like it's none of your business seeing starving kids beg for some change. Your choice. Laugh Laugh Laugh I see but actually that method of philanthropy, of handouts, has been criticised as creating dependency. It destroys the little that is already there and creates new problems which it shys away from confronting. It creates a 'benefactor-is-coming' mentality. What was it you are against, again? Hence your style, as my brother puts it, is not optimal. What reason do you have for this your style of doing things? For betterment? How, when it creates, strengthens and entrenches dependency, destroys dignity and deepens poverty? I think logic and respect for others is key, Tycho, my brother, for without them everything Hamburglar does is poison. To his friends and his dependants in the slum. Dpendancy??? Really??? How does handing a loaf of bread and a packet of milk every now and then create dependency?? So, using your logic, you would rather keep that 200 shillings that you have in your pocket and watch a kid starve to death because you think that if you buy him a meal it will create dependency??????? And you call yourself a righteous man???? We don't do enough to create dependency and yes, we would looooooove to see these people depend on themselves, but in a country like Kenya where resuources are thin and stretched out, sometimes you have to give a little help to prevent an innocent child that can't DEPEND on themselves from starving to death. Everything else in the face of death is secondary. That is not the time to argue about methods of philanthropy and what creates dependency, in the face of survival. Plus, you might want to know that these people do depend on themselves. They work odd jobs, they trek back and forth to industrial area for manual jobs, they do whatever they can to try and put food on the table and aroof over their families heads, but most often than not, their efforts do not always cover the spread and they are left needing some help. There is a big big big difference betweeen a little help and dependence. By the way, this debate was not about what i do in slums, it's about your gods and detrimental religions. Let's stick to the topic and not digress.

Glad you see the importance of logic and respect for other, brother Tycho. I also agree that it, despite it's importance, is not the only key to the exclusion of all others. There has to some 'enlightenment' for lack of a better phrase to accompany it. The psychological indeed is the other key. The duo of logic and psychological strike a better balance. If we look at it this way of Hamburglar then merely pouring in loads of packets of milk in the slum will solve problem(s) in the slum. Will you, Hamburglar, keep supplying the packets of milk ad infinitum? You may have got an immediate aspect of logic right at least on the small and narrow scale but you have left out the pyschological aspect. The wider and longer term aspect. By that you are deficient, unbalanced. This is what I (and I hope my brother too) is trying to explain to you in so many words. I am in a hurry to leave, you know, another Friday sunset is almost and it's my best time.

I dont know if the allegations levelled against these couple are true or false. However, one cannot deny that they are fake. When someone tells you "my partner is my best friend....."is in most cases, although not in all cases, a fat lie. Beyond the facade lies the real maggoty self. I think, she is a spin doctor.

Treated with kids gloves!!! They have shows in the same station!! You don't expect anything less of a choreographed interview. You come out with hard facts, you discredit them, their show on ntv - your employer - has less viewership. Next, less advertisement shillings... and you think your boss will be smiling at you for letting the truth come out??? Biachara ni Biachara.... Never count on making a good sale. Have the purchase price be so attractive that even a mediocre sale gives good returns.

In my Teenage years we used to have a pastor that was adored by everyone. He was eloquent, sharp and witty. I used to go listening to his preachings with a paper and a pen, inorder to write all the new words i heard from him,so that i could use those words in composition writting.
He would tell us, if we ever saw a man resembling him in a pub, that is when we are passing by,we should be informed, the devil has powers "to wear his body" and that, that is not him but a demon used by the devil to resemble him
one of the beautiful church member was taken ill and got admitted in a Hospital. Doctors gave their diagnosis, that the woman developed complications while terminating a pregnancy. The following sunday, the pastor was breathing fire cursing those medical doctors and said that the woman was a victim of demon attack and tha doctors dont have the powers to discern that. The Congregation was charged up and felt that we need to pray for those doctors.
To cut the story short, the woman was aborting the pastor's baby. The Pastor later contracted HIV AIDS infected several members in the church. Many kids were left orphaned. Even in his own deathbed,he was denying his sins and shove the blame to his wife for infecting him with AIDS.
