My all time XI is an all time African XI not necessarily an AFCON XI.
Weah is the greatest African striker ever. There was a time he came to play against Harambee stars and Austin marked him out of the game. One of the best performances by a Kenyan defender.

In that case am tempted to agree with the list..... However, shouldn't there be some place for Etoo on the bench?

Surprised there's no Aboutrika Mohamed.

I thought about Etoo. But if there is room for only striker on the bench. It was a tossup between Drogba and Etoo. I think Drogba has accomplished more than Etoo

I consider Etoo more accomplished!!!

Etoo vs Drogba is a tossup

As for Aboutrika he is good but I think there have been better plamakers even in Egypt like Tarek Abu Zeid, Mohammed Timoumi of Morocco etc

In lieu of a subsititues bench: 2nd Africa XI of all time

1. Thomas Nkono
2. Emmanuel Eboue
3. Celestine Babayaro
4. Stephen Keshi
5. Emmanuel Kunde
6. Seydou Keita
7. JJ Okocha
8. Mustapha Hadji
9. Didier Drogba
10. Theophile Abega
11. Samuel Etoo

In real terms, the greatest striker Africa has ever produced is not George Weah but Eusebio who came from Mozambique

Most online rankings have Etoo as the best of all time and a few have Weah!!!

Online rankings aside, Eusebio was at one time the best striker in the world bar none. So good that at one point people started to say he was better than Pele. Etoo may not even be good enough to clean his shoes. Eusebio accomplished stuff that few strikers across the world have:

1. Top scorer in the 1966 world cup ( 9 goals) and was the main reason Portugal finished 3rd.
2. All time leading scorer for Benfica (638 goals)
3. 11 league titles
4. European cup top scorer 3 times
5. European golden boot twice

I would like to see which online ranking would put Etoo ahead of Eusebio.
Anyone who saw Weah play for AC Milan and PSG will laugh at the idea that Etoo is better

@Nakujua
Eusebio was born in Mozambique to a Mozambican father. At the time, Mozambique was a colony of Portugal so he and three other Mozambicans of that era played for Portugal

have not dug up the details, but I would think statistics weigh more in favour of etoo compared to weah

@Nakujua. I dont know what the stats look like. But stats only tell half the story.

If you ever saw George Weah play you will just laugh at the comparison with Etoo. There was a time when Weah was considered the best striker in Europe. And I mean the best striker in all European leagues. Thats when he was voted European player of the year. I dont think any other African has this honor. Am I mistaken?

In fact I am not sure Etoo is the best Camerounian striker ever. Roger Milla is. Mpaka even Pepe Kalle sung a song about him. Milla played in the French league in the 1970s and early 1980s during a time when it was almost impossible for an African to break into Europe. And he was AFCON top scorer quite a few times. Etoo may even have better stats than Milla but let me tell you Milla could play.

This was when Cameroun was really good. Not this joke of a team that we see these days. This was the era of players like Abega, Onguene, Kunde, Nkono, Bell et al. There are full length videos of their exploits online. Endeni muone historia.
