9 car models recalled by Toyota are RAV4, Corolla, Matrix, Avalon, Camry, Highlander, Tundra and Sequoia and Prius. Funny enough these recalls are not affecting the Developing countries. is it that our standards are too low or Toyota just design the best cars for us?

We have a huge dependence on toyota and at these rate of recalls, not only are toyota going to suffer huge losses but also loss of public confidence.

This will eventually be turned on to the consumer to shoulder the cost of revamping itself. Overally, Toyota becomes expensive, parts became expensive and the already high resale vale of Toyo's also goes high. Effectively, lowering spendings on cars or lowering the amount of liquid cash in your pocket smile

Actually I think its because most of the cars in developing countries are refurbished, so they've already done a few years in developed countries. So unless your car is a real new toyota, I doubt!

@Mufasa; We do not have to worry too much since most of us buy cars that have already done 100,000 Kilimeters. Besides that the defects are usually rectified by potholes and accidents!!! before the junk is finally sent to the cementry!!!

The cars being recalled are pretty recent models -> I think 2009 or 2010, so on the whole nothing to worry about.

@tuvok, Yes! You're right. These models are very recent. However, My worry is that the Toyota Corporation has entered into a huge loss in revenue from these huge recall. This will be automatically be transferred to the consumer. Since "Developed Countries" have consumer protection.... Where else do you expect them to regain the capital lost? In my opinion - "Developing countries" with no proper Consumer protection in place and please don't talk about KEBS. They've been weighed and found wanting on several occasions. These guys are reacive as opposed to proactive

It's true the problem affects the 2009/10 models. It means the problem will land in Kenya in 2018 since we import 8 year old junks.

@kabz you are right. Toyota goofed but the US Transport Secretary went overboard and betrayed his real intentions - recovering government cash by beating down GM's competitors.
