Chatting to some pals on the weekend talking about Jacob Zuma at Davos 2010 and the guys giving him a hard time http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/africa/8485730.stm

And this is what someone came up with. Surely, if in Africa we're forced to be politically correct on the gay issue? (same question would not have been asked to a gay leader)

Why can't guys give due respect to the guy? Are these two even in the same league? (although latest baby doesn't exactly make a strong case) Even the Swaziland guy is often ridiculed?

Neo colonialism perhaps...

I hear you @bkismat. Don't know whether I'm not astute these days but I distinctly get the vibe that polygamy is so so wrong... and that I need to be sensitive to feelings of gays.

at times i honestly believe women promote polygamy. have u ever seen crazed male fans throw their underwear at for example wahu or jlo when she is performing on stage? what is the poor man supposed to do?

Now see the latest... And the US must have laws against polygamy. This gay thing is becoming more politically correct than polygamy.

Obama described the Uganda bill as "odious" in remarks at the annual National Prayer Breakfast, a bipartisan gathering of lawmakers and religious leaders in Washington DC.

Uganda's ethics minister on Thursday dismissed virulent criticism of his country's proposed anti-gay law by US President Barack Obama and warned that any interference would be "unacceptable".

20 is on my rear view and 30 in my sights. Never been married before but have dated 2 girls, different times. Am i polygamous? What about those divorced and re-married severally, are they monogamous? And the married types with side dishes-both sexes, are they monogamous? Serious problems arise when you apply western standards to african cultures. In early days of colonial rule, a man killed his neighbor. The only probable witness was his 'wife'. The prosecutor wanted to call the 'wife' as a witness against the man. Problem was that under english law a man and his wife are ONE. Therefore a wife cannot be required to testify against HERSELF. Judge was in a dilemma, but after carefully looking at african 'marriage' rites, exchange of dowry and feasting he concluded that no marriage took place between africans but rather 'wife purchase'. And the 'wife' was forced to to testify!
Life is short. Live passionately.

@muganda I feel u kabisa.

In the US/West, polygamy is totally not acceptable yet gay relationships are more palatable. Obama decribed the proposed Uganda law as 'odious', and yet his own dad Obama Snr was an accomplished polygamist. Methinks, this anti-polygamy undercurrents are the voice of feminist lobbies drowning out the voices of the menfolk...am sure deep down, given a man is a man is a sexual predator, their menfolk would happily flirt polygamy given a chance

The western standards are increasingly embracing gayism, while African standards largely embrace polygamy, even if secretly. No reason why they should think their standards in this case are superior to ours. Kila mtu aishi na yake.

All considered it may not be totally unfair to allow a law against polygamy in America / Eurpoe and a law against gayism in Africa.

Someone once told me in being fair to the minority, you can become unfair to the majority.
