I honestly don't know why Kenya produces sugar. Can't see any comparative advantage. Shouldn't we just import from Uganda,Sudan and Malawi ?
The land can be use to grow our stable food thus enhance food security.
Having said that I will not buy this monkey at any price.

Ug imports and re exports to Ke. Only Egypt and Sudan have the huge capacity to supply Ke demand.

As for me i don’t understand why people are worried about that our sugar is expensive. Most likely even our water is expensive and we have not decided to import.

The point is let’s find value in our sugar that will make others want it, whether price, brand, content etc.

Right now ,the value is not there. High production cost, low sucrose content and high price.
Who wants poor product at high price?

When is last time you saw anything Made in America. The cost of production in America companies was more than double comparing to products made in China, Mexico. Thailand, malaysia...plus other developing countries. Mumias Sugar company to me is dead cow, what we need is to skin this monster and save the skin if it cannot compete with other regional companies. Kenyan needs cheap sugar and Uganda is ready to supply.
