ideal first car; vw citi or toyota starlet

Hey guys, its my first car, i need a means of getting to and from work with flexibility and also something i can run my errands with on weekends or other times. What is ideal for me bearing in mind i wanna use this machine for approx 1 year until my biz picks up. My budgetis like 240k.
Will appreciate your honest opinions.

@allyaan allyaan, my guess is the car has been already used in Kenya. The challenge with these cars is that they will eventually breakdown and need repairs. If you can, top up and get a fresh import (from japan) from 550k onwards, that way you have about 3 years of trouble free life. (just service required). @allyaan Citi hoppa, Anyway,if you are planning to buy locally,make sure that you buy from a friend or family member and you at least have the basic history of the car,otherwise you will spend a good amount of time and money in the garage If Obiero did it, Who Am I?

instead of going for car used locally for that amount + 40k you can import a suzuki alto, seems like a well priced ride, at around 1300 - 1500 usd around (120k) and an approximate importation amount of around 160k.
and with a 660 cc engine and a max speed of 140, it will be very easy on your pocket.

This must be for the tarmac only! The opposite of courage is not cowardice, it's conformity.

This must be for the tarmac only! why, its not a 4X4 but it can venture anywhere any other non 4X4 can. if one puts aside class, size and looks - its a perfect car for daily commute to and from work and the weekend kidogo business hustles - that back seat ni kama ya probox, it can lie flat opening up a very spacious storage area, bigger than what the sedans will offer.

@allyaan i know a lady who bought a toyota 110/100 not sure,station wagon @180k. it has served her quite well. tho u have to b really carefully/lucky to get a kenyan used car in gd form. visit show ground on Sundays for shopping. there r many sellers for used Kenyan cars. gd luck

Some guy told me that when the Suzuki alto us stuck in traffic ie stationary,it scavenges fuel from the air i,e from petrol fumes and thus saves on its own fuel..is this true?
