'Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime'
...Though overused, i still find this saying quite apt. Kudos James Mwangi for giving young children an opportunity to shape their future. What a humble man...God Bless...Now showing on TV channels...

A great initiative indeed.

ION, From a business perspective, if these children succeeds in life, and they are in senior decision making positions in the next 10 to 20 years, Equity might be taking all the huge businesses and accounts from the various businesses they will be owning and/or running.

Kudos to Mwangi and team.

I listened to the stories of kids from various parts of Kenya and was touched.

I noted that a number of kids are getting scholarships to study in universities abroad and a young man said he hopes that the quality of education in Kenya will improve so that students from other parts of the world (apart from East Africa) can apply to come and study in Kenya in future. I liked that.

YES, the time when lecturers in Kenya will stop moonlighting and concentrate their energy in one college for the benefit of students...

In 20 years time this Mwangi fellow might yield the power to decide who the next president of Kenya would be.....

Kudos JM, we also have Eric Kimani of Palmhouse Foundation. He doesn't publicize but he will send volunteers to conduct interview in all regions of Kenya.

Another positive outcome is that our local banks are copycating, KCB, COOP. much as it exposes the lack of lateral thinking by our banks, the end result is good for us.
Let's now wait for the Kenyan malaise to creep in - corruption.

Possible but minimal in coorporate Kenya. Kudos James, he probably feels indebted after what they did to Trade Bank (the customers & their families)

I like what equity is doing, and above all they have not kept it secret, keeps the pressure on them to continue and also pulls in other institutions to do the same.

He actually copied this from Starehe Boys' Center. His 3 sons all went to Starehe. But he blew it to a scale that Starehe never could (esp after GWG died). It is an absolutely wonderful thing he is doing. There are lots of bright and poor children in Kenya who would never get a good education if it were not for what he is doing.

...And the communities' trust in the bank grows day by day...I hear this is the only bank in Kenya that pays workers at the end of the month even when the employers have not remitted their salaries!!! Mhhhhhhh...Should open an account here.

Fresh air!

my take - the more the merrier. in the words
Quote:
Some, to be sure, are preaching Christ even from envy and strife, but some also from good will
the latter do it out of love, knowing that I am appointed for the defense of the gospel;
the former proclaim Christ out of selfish ambition rather than from pure motives, thinking to cause me distress in my imprisonment.
What then? Only that in every way, whether in pretense or in truth, Christ is proclaimed; and in this I rejoice. Yes, and I will rejoice,

my take is the same - as long as good is being done, the motives are secondary

I, too, concur. The more the merrier. Reminds me of an old lady who walked in to the local Family Bank branch recently clutching only her national i.d, an introductory letter from her area chief and her dependant's (grandchild) KCPE result slip. She said that she had been informed by the chief that the bank would educate her grandchild for free since she had no means to pay for his high school fees herself. The kid had performed well, having got 413marks. Long story short, her wishes were granted and she went home happy.
