so GOK is supposed to look after him just because he was a "hero"? my take is this. If you made money and submitted it to tax payers then tax payers are required to take care of you later in your life but if you did not... well... join the disgruntled list of "heroes" who mismanaged their lives and want tax payers to foot their twilight years. He is still young he can bounce back.

Let the guy wipe his makamasi and start working like other Kenyans do........ he is still in denial. I can fundraise for his rehab but not lifestyle!

You f*** your life and want the government to step in and help you! Get serious. We all have a responsibility to plan for our future unless we are intending to die tomorrow. I look at some musicians who were the talk of the country in the 80s and 90s and I just pity them. They sleep in the streets. They were paid royalties for their records and earned much from their performances. But they blew all the money on beer and pussy! Well...He still has an accent. He can train people how to speak in that accent. There are many wannabes who would pay to acquire it...

He is not alone...

Govt hasn't failed, but managers and agents have. Our athletes get serious cash in a very short time, have basic education and are mesmerized by big money.
The so called managers dont act in the interests of the athletes.
So many athletes have fallen by the wayside, where is Henry Rono or Paul Ereng? Compare them with those who were managed well - Catherine 'the great' Ndereba or Daniel Wakihuri....
On to Maurice, he's a personal friend, so is his brother Tito. Contrast the two characters and it will be clear who got hit by the stuff from the fan.
And another thing, know when to leave the stage, the audience wouldn't clap forever. Like @essky said, come back to earth after you leave the stage.

If you get a chance to go to India ask the local folks where Kenya is and you'll get blank stares like you are from Mars. Now, for the few who know, ask them who is the current president, again same stares. Proceed and ask if they know Morris Odumbe and you'll get a wide smile with a comment 'Odumbe good spinner' then tell them you are the brother.Guys will line up to take selfies with you.

Apparently,Indians have never forgotten what Odumbe did to them in the cricket world cup back then.

Sad it has come to this. Saw him in a TV ad sometime back,he seemed to be doing okay, didn't know it would end up like this.

Very true!!
This guy was fixed by the same guys who fixed then Kenya Cricket Council chairman Sharad Ghai. He was caught up in local and international intrigues and ended up a victim. There was a war for control of Kenyan cricket between the Hindus, the Ismailis, the Bohras and the Jains. Even though majority of the star cricket players then were black Kenyans, the management of Cricket then and up to now was a preserve of the Asians, but the Asian were not united and were divided into their own social and religious groupings
