You should have also mentioned that still yesterday a virgin Atlantic 747 enroute from london to las vegas developed mechanical problems and had to return to gatwick and make an emergency landing with stuck landing gear, producing a fireball, with the hundreds of passengers thinking they were going to die, many even making the "last calls" to their loved ones. Also in the UK yesterday, a Flybe airline plane had to make an emergency landing after smoke was detected in the cargo hold. Hizi aviation machida are not confined to Malaysia. At least the Malaysian problems have been due to factors beyond their control unlike those cases in the UK which are due to poor maintenance/human error. European aviation safety standards also need a review.

Media love sensationalist reporting. This Air Asia runway excursion was only reported because of the (then) missing flight.

On average worldwide, there are two runway excursions per week involving passenger airliners, with almost zero interesting the media. KQ's 2014 Dar incident wasn't even picked up by the international media.
