hi...am new here....I'm also really interested in hydraform blocks....i believe low cost housing is the way to go....so i called the uganda guys last week and they told me that they deal with two people here in kenya. George Waititu (0722206980) and Sam Jakinda 0727777354. I later learnt that the Mr waititu they were talking about is the MD/CEO of that company that gives us scary statistics....cant remember what its called....anyway, apparently he has built some huge castle in Nanyuki using hydraform blocks....as for the second guy, his phone was mteja....but that was a last week. you could check and see whether it works.

There is also a company called Hydrablockwalls Kenya Ltd that also deals with hydraform....they have advertised widely on these trade websites...but their contacts are quite elsuive...apparently you have to join the websites before they can give you the contacts.

If anyone has information on low cost housing.....moladi, ecohomes, hydraform etc please share.

there's a Dr. J.P.Monda of JKUAT civil engineering department who runs a local agency for that... guess you will have to google that.. also try TKM Maestro..

the entire concept is called sustainable housing due to its base on locally available materials..

what i will remind everyone on the forum is that while walling forms the walls of a house it is but one of 20 different parts of a building..

by saving on on walling you make an active step towards some savings .. however remember hydrafoam only presses blocks into shape.. it can not press doors, wiring, plumbing, roofing, excavations, roads to the house, sewerage required etc... a normal house has about 20 of these major elements...

sustainable housing hence can not work isolation it needs to be part of wholesome concept and for that reason needs to be part of a carefully thought out process... usually by professionals..

@Maia, you may want to contact Makiga, a small company based in KIE sheds (dont know where exactly, pehaps mr. google know) They sell Stabilized soil block making machines (manual).
That may be a good start.

I plan to buy one - I shall be going there sometime in the week and shall surely update the forum.
