The con game is not confined to cheques. Towards the end of last year it happened to the company I work for. The level of collusion between bank employees and fraudsters is going to another level. A would be customer calls us and asks for our account.........deposits a huge cheque to our account. The cashier instead of issuing a cheque deposit receipt, issues a cash deposit receipt. This guy then shows up at our outlet on a friday with the deposit slip and a list of the drugs he wants to purchase for his new chemist somewhere in the riftvalley. Being sceptical saves us from losing a huge consignment of drugs. To buy time we tell him some of the items are at our depo and the earliest date to collect the consignment on Monday. He says its ok but never comes back. We become suspicious and requests for a statement from the bank only to find it was a cheque deposit. Of course the cheque bounces............

BTW ..........this bank is a multinational and their staff are not very helpful when you try to follow up on such cases.

BEWARE and just don't trust anyone.

@Mzalendo

A word of advice. If the bank gave you a stamped deposit slip of cash, then go ahead and claim the 'huge amount'. If they refuse, please write to the CBK, Bank Supervision department and give them a copy of the cash deposit slip. They will be sorted before you know.

We have to stop such bank officers.

Guys, we have a good regulator in Kenya who will not entertain such nonsense from banks! Never. That is why Bankiing is very stable in Kenya.

They are back at it again..(..as if they had taken a break)probably you've heard stories of cons using phones in all manner of ways to non-violently rob the unsuspecting public.

Beware when you recieve a call from your phone network to switch off your phone so as to install internet settings or whichever settings there is..

A random acquitance was nearly robbed hands down when he recieved a call from,supposedly Safaricom,requesting him to switch off his phone for 45mins, so as to enable activation of internet settings on his phone..he gladly did so coz coincidentally his phone was new.

On the meanwhile the rogues called his loved ones,telling them that they had kidnapped their kin,and needed 1million as ransom,on a timeline of 45mins failure to which they will be sorry for the repercussions.The fears of his kins were confirmed when they tried calling him and they found he was mteja.

The family held a crisis meeting brainstorming on how to raise the ransom...the 45mins lapsed and while they kins were negotiating for more time their "kidnapped son" called after finding many missed calls on his phone...the rest as they say is history.So next time you are told to switch off your phone,it can help a great deal if you inform your kin that you are switching off your phone for whatever reason.
