Gosh! LIBOR trading at all time lows.

In the same week government raises 16bn at 11.263 in a 12 year bond, CFC Stanbic goes and obtains 14bn at 3.04% (1 year Libor +0.5) !!! Of all the banks and rights issues this year, this one knocks it out of the ball park.

Touching lows of 115/- today.
Wonder whether Q3 results will stir any gain in price.

Bears are winning at the NSE. No telling how low it will go and for how long. But still a good investment.

Well, the CMA is advocating amendment of foreigners quota upto 100%.if successful and done within the year then there is hope for a good increment.otherwise the share will remain depressed.i bid today @115 and hope I pick some.i concur that the bear is with us as prospects of buying kcb @50,equity @45,cic@9 and safaricom(after results excitement)@11.50 appear to me not too far fetched.the entire rally June to Sept may be reversed.

The discount is very welcome. The lower the price goes the better. This firm has a 14B pool for onward lending and sourced cheaply (3%) and can easily offer very competitive lending rates to corporates/multinationals in KE. Focus is corporate lending esp hydrocarbon and industrial sectors.

Very cheap bank stock if you look at the future of hydrocarbons, infrastructure and mining. If they end up above kcb or member in a few years time, I won't be shocked.

My only long term play in KE and my greed will return if price breaks below 100. That will be a nice discount.

As EBL matches that;

AfDB approves US $148 million Line of Credit to Equity Bank Limited http://www.afdb.org/en/n...ity-bank-limited-13733/

True. Banks need that cheaper funding, senior debt and all.

I think the recalibration along KBRR is taking envisioned effect. Looking at the CBK Q3 review, sector profitability is down 11% between June & Sept. 2014. 37.6B v 33.5B

Interesting. At what rate did AFDB lend to EBL?

That CBK Q3 report is now aligning with my expectations since KE econ is on a slump.

The rate isn't disclosed. I think EBL jumped through the hoop after AfDB opened non-concessional borrowing to KE. Covered on the KE econ. watch thread.

Loans btwn June & Sept. rose 7%. Mostly to productive sectors. In line with my expectations of keeping discretionary goods from crowding the import window long as possible.

This has failed to break above 130 severally on a 6 months period.

It set a new resistance at 125-126.

Bears have been testing how low the stock can go and tried 120 then 116 and latest was 115.

Next support poking will be at 110 after which 100 will be tested.

Am just surprised at the lack of demand on this counter.

This stock has been stuck in the 120-130 range for too long.

What time frame? Coz 250 is easily doable if you can wait 10 years!

2 years. With 30-50% growth in earnings, we reach that valuation when the 2016 results are announced.

CFCS has very volatile earnings coz its South Sudan subsidiary + income from trading forex & bonds. I expect it will do well but I doubt it can do 30-50% for 2 years running.

2014 over 2013 should be good but reflected in the price.
2015 & 2016 (announced in 2017 - election year) will be competitive as other banks bulk up to compete for corporate customers and cross-border deals.

Nedbank has a representative office in Nairobi for those SA-Kenya deals [in conjunction with a local bank] to compete with CFCS. Barclays/ABSA plays in the same space.

Banking sector PBT for 2014 is 13.5% vs 16.9% in 2013. Down 20.1%... This means net interest margin will also be on reversal.

Waiting for those banking FY results to see how Q4 was padded with asset sales to try and beautify that stark reality.
